if anyone is a weirdo about numbers like i am:

I have followed the drought of the oilers and the non-championships of the eskies (including the crushing end of the eskimos long standing professional sports playoff streak ending) and because of that i have come to hope that everyone can let it be a small piece of solace to think that in 2005 when we won in Vancouver the Oilers, just 5-6 months later went on an improbable playoff run. I always remember danny maccocia running on the field in overtime with the Als still having third down and thinking, man, that's some bad karma right there.

we win that GC game, the Oilers go to game 7 of the stanley cup, and we ride a collective wave that crashes hard.
A **** storm of futility followed that with painful rigor and aggression

....fast forward a decade and today rights the ship for the city of champions.

The big brother eskimos have always guided the way and paved the road for the oilers since the first dynasty in the late 70's and early 80's and the did the same in 2005.

I really (reilly) think/feel that this team is paving the way for a new era in Oilers history as well. #newArenaEra

A lot needs to happen, indeed, but man oh man does having a Grey Cup championship make it that much easier to BELIEVE

Thank you Mike Reilly. Thank you Chris Jones. Thank you entire Edmonton Eskimos franchise. Congrats EE

Edmonton - Champions once more. See! It happens!!!!

And to think, people wanted Chris Jones fired.

And people were done with this game.

Congrats to the people who actually stood by the team!

Is Mike Reilly a RHD?

Maybe he can lace them up for the second half of the season when mcdavid gets back.

He's like if Matt Hendricks was also a first line centre or a bonafide #1D

God i love that human. Mike Reilly, you made me happy for ten weeks in a row and another ______ months.

Thank you #13

Lolwat? Takes a team that won 4 games two years ago to consecutive winning seasons and people wanted him gone? Hmm..

I don't recall anybody wanting Jones gone. Sounds like fiction. This is Tads schtick.

Reilly the warrior pulled it out. Mind you it took more than that. he played through injury and was getting in worse shape as game went on. if people didn't notice he basically couldn't complete a pass late in the game. That drive was largely PI's.

Great to win the cup. 14th for the Eskimos. 13 was unlucky...

This is actually a bit of an understatement. The guy may not be the most talented but he could potentially lead this team to several Grey Cups if he stays healthy.

Congrats Esks!!!!

I've called him a legend in our times. he's a throwback, they don't make many like this. He will do literally anything to win.

I think I lost weight sweating buckets and knowing my fingers off watching this game..

Typical Esks win though, they don't like doing it easy this bunch.

Congrats to the Eskimos.
Gotta love the shameful "game over" comments by some of you early in the game. You would think that it was an Oilers GDT with all the bridge jumping.

kind of silly comment. With 1 quarter left we're behind, against the stiff wind, and with Reilly playing with a rib problem and a re-aggravated knee. With an Oline that was porous as hell.

We got the win, but through PI calls. The reality is Reilly had trouble completing much of anything in the 4th quarter. I'm amazed he finished the game.

The reality is we needed two PI calls on the winning drive to get the W. That's about two more calls than we got most of the year.. if we don't get either of those we probably don't win. We weren't moving the ball at all in the 4th.

Congrats Esks!!!!

That's the thing that worries me about Reilly. I absolutely love the way that guy plays but he takes so many hits and it's going to be difficult for him to stay healthy.

The more he rushes the higher the risk of injury.

On a side note, what happened to the O-line in the 2nd half? It seemed like he had no time at all to throw the ball.

He's 30 and change already. He won't play 5 more seasons this way. But I don't think anybody is expecting him to.

Could very well repeat next year though.

The Oline disgusted me throughout the game. Only time it didn't was helping push Shavers for a first down. That was a big one. Overall they all owe Mikey bigtime.

The thing with those 2 PI calls is that if Ottawa doesn't take them those plays are just catches instead, and Walker in particular probably just scores right there.

We dominated this game on Offense and on Defense. Unusually poor special teams play made this game look closer than it was. Lawrence had a brutal outing and Whyte left 5 points on the board that he usually nails with ease.

On the one call Bowman didn't have a hope in hell of making the catch. if anything it was defensive PI. Bowman just stuck his arms in there to make it look like he was being interfered with. Smart call but...

The last PI was completely legit and kudos to the players being very very vocal about it. That's team leadership. I love that they wouldn't let it go because Jones was wrong on that one. he relented. Good thing the recievers made it so clear to him it was PI and to challenge it. Soon as anybody saw that play on the screen they knew it was PI. Even Ottawa fans not disputing that call. They could dispute the other two.

Bad time for the kicking game to go sour. And Reilly was not helped at all by the O-Line in the second half. The Eskies need to rebuild that line in the off-season - just not good enough.

I was thinking the same............???

City of Champions? :sarcasm:

I was thinking the same thing......didn't the City decided to take down "the Signs" just this year...........and now this happens (the Eskimos winning the Grey Cup)......just a bit of irony.

Why is it silly? I think it's a shame that there were fans throwing in the towel in the 1st quarter of a Championship game in which they were only down 13-0. You would think a team that made it to the Grey Cup finals would deserve more respect than that.

I can understand why Oiler fans cry "game over" early in games because they've stunk for 8 years but not with the Eskimos but to each their own I guess.

The last thread is closed so I couldn't quote and reply to the whiner who thinks the officials have a vendetta against the Esks. Give me a flipping break. That was a decently officiated game and if errors were made they were errors. There is no conspiracy against our team.

Congrats to the Esks.

Oh, didn't really catch that. Myself I was venting in the first quarter but who wouldn't. What a craptastic way to start a championship game. My comments stand as well. Lawrence was complete garbage in this football game. I think he had negative yds on the day. That he handed the Red Black a TD is what everybody was upset about.

But I was thinking we were doomed in the 4th because it looked like Reilly couldn't even go. If you were watching they showed him favoring his ribs after a couple hellacious hits in particular. he could hardly move out there and got his leg banged up again as well. Heroic guy, good thing he just can't be stopped.

WE are fortunate because Reilly couldnt' throw a long ball with any accuracy in 2nd half. He was really hurting a lot. I've seen Reilly struggle before when he gets too banged up.

tbh I'm pissed at the Oline for leaving him open for the massive abuse he took on the day. I don't know how a QB could withstand more than a handful of games like this. I mean he was getting hammered out there. ironically no roughing the passer calls even though several of the shots were late coming. I just don't know how he could keep picking himself up off the canvas. I heard Rocky music playing.. I think Reilly heard bells ringing.

Congrats to the Esks.

not sure who you are referring to me but the major foul call of roughing the passer was the biggest joke call I've seen go against the Eskimos since, oh, well, around several bogus calls just last week.

That said this week aside from that stupid roughing call that negated a 17yd sack and gave REd Blacks a first down the officiating was a whole lot more reasonable in this one than its been lately.

I think today was only the 2nd challenge call Jones has won all year. just saying

Congratulations Eskimos! Feels so good to be a champion again. The Esks were such a mess of a team only 3 seasons ago and have come a long way. Hopefully the Oilers can mimic some of the Esks turnaround. Similar great coaches in Jones and McLellan and maybe McDavid can be like Mike Reilly :) Too bad the two team's defences are many miles apart though. Really hope the Riders don't steal Jones away this summer.
