Lol, well geez tell me more about your master plan to pry a guy loose who just stated in the press that he has no plans on leaving Anaheim. Thanks for the info.
Snowpants seems rejuvenated and is definitely an upgrade on the skate like crazy, do nothing Spooner.
When Nuge first became an Oiler i thought his personality matched a little closer to that of gagners rather than the hall/beetle of those daysI just hope that it wasn't just because he was full of adrenaline and that he sucks from here on out. If he can keep up that caliber of play he at least gives Nuge someone to play with. I also found it interesting that Gagner said that he and Nuge have kept in touch over the years so that's cool and makes his return that much easier.
Sammy certainly knows what he's doing on a PP. Even if this is short-lived, it's already better than the negative value that Spooner brought.I just hope that it wasn't just because he was full of adrenaline and that he sucks from here on out. It was a joke poking fun at team chemistry. Because they’ve acquired players who have a history of hating each other (McDavid/Manning Kassian/Gagner).Lol, well geez tell me more about your master plan to pry a guy loose who just stated in the press that he has no plans on leaving Anaheim.
Gagner immediately made that second power play unit more fun to watch. Whether your happy or sad about that depends on your disposition.

I'm so used to us losing every single trade, and most of them by a wide margin, that it's a little refreshing to even win one by a minuscule amount.
Yep.
Gagner is always good on a pp. he rarely struggles there and works good effective PP QB schemes. He's efficient there and numbers always support that and as recently as Columbus.
When Gagner gets topsix looks he produces, when he gets parked in bottomsix he doesn't as much. That's everybodies story.
Gagner is subject to losing confidence when he gets buried like the Flyers did. But everywhere else he's shown game. He was even good in Arizona on a mostly awful club.
Its a positive, definitely, to get Gagner for Spooner.
The attitudinal differences are immense. Just look at Gagner last night saying to Principe that the AHL assignment was tough on him but that he shifted how he looked at it and convinced himself that the AHL is a way to get better and to hone more in your game. He used it as a positive.
Used correctly, Columbus got 50pts out of this player.
This is wrong. Gagner has always gotten top 6 minutes and not done well. He is a brutal center and gets eaten alive against tougher competition. Victimized by heavy back checkers through the nutreul zone. Terrible in board battles.
His best year was in Columbus and he was used in a bottom 6 role and PP specialist. The reason he was successful was because he was kept away from elite players on both sides except the PP. His 5v5 time and quality of competition was extremely low in Columbus.
His PP success was unsustainable and eventually dried up.
There is a reason Columbus walked away without a second thought. Why he was sent to the minors on a team desperate for scoring (originally) in Vancouver.
Gagner didn't lite up the ahl even.
He is what he is. To get the most out of him the Oilers need to follow Columbus example. Get him on the #1 PP. Spread out the wealth a bit so we have 2 units. Get him playing against the opponents weakest players 5 v 5 with limited minutes. Ironically he would really benefit playing with a big fast player like... Kassian.
I hate the player, for good reason he is terrible, but he could help the team if used properly.

Just for curiosity: would you rather have Spooner or Gags?
Columbus walked away because they were close to the cap and Gagner earned himself a nice raise. Terrible players don't put up over .5 points per game over their career. He has flaws but will compete and contribute.
You're right, you are wrong. Bottom of the barrel guys get PTO's. 3rd line offensive vets get around 3 mil.I could be wrong but if I remember correctly Gagner really was a bottom of the barrel UFA after his 50 point season. I'm more shocked Van gave him 3 and a bit of term than he was demoted to the ahl.

I did, no worriesIt was a joke poking fun at team chemistry. Because they’ve acquired players who have a history of hating each other (McDavid/Manning Kassian/Gagner).
I asked if we had any other guys with an ongoing feud so we’d know who the team might be targeting next. I couldn’t think of any. Someone suggested Sekera/Getzlaf. I agreed, thinking those two probably hate each other enough to qualify. My post to you was sarcasm because you were the only one who thought I was serious. Perhaps you missed those earlier posts.
I would rather have neither player this year. Both are terrible this year and both are not nhl players. The extra cap space and a some young ahl players with potential to eventually be an nhl player... or even a 4th line role player would be FAR more useful. Pitlick is a better player than both and only costs 1 mill...
I think there is a MUCH better chance Spooner has a bounce back year next year than Gagner.
I know Gagner is an AHL level player past his peak. Spooner "could" contribute next year.
