Deal is looking like a steal at the moment. Taking guys from the KHL is a bit of a gamble, we all should remember Belov. But this guy just seems like a guy who just flourished over there and took his game to another level.

I still think Belov was a victim of Eakins' defensive 'scheme'.

Belov came at the wrong time. he had games where he looked like a #4. I think he was ruined just as much as other players were. trying to learn NA game AND playing under eakins... his career was ruined

Nilsson is coming in at the right time

I'm surprised to see people say he's looked better than Talbot. He's had some out of this world play, but he also has noticeably worse fundamentals (e.g. rebound control, positioning, puck handling) than Talbot. Those are the kinds of things that keep you playing well long term. We'll see if it happens to Nilsson - I'd love to see him keep this up.

As for the KHL risk... I agree, Belov isn't the best cautionary tale. He clearly was sunk by Dallas Eakins and said so upon his return to Russia. I wish he had come over this year instead. Be nice to see him with a real coach. Grebeshkov's a better example of a poor signing by us lol.

Nilsson is also 25. If he is looking as good as Talbot but with worse fundamentals.. That sounds great in the future. All his issues can be easily fixed with time and work.

At least we changed our goalie coaching, lol. If we had our old coach I'd be concerned about leaving Nilsson in his hands, nevermind fixing bad habits...

nice re reading this thread--not many people had this guy as out starter--I see a few people have gone back and edited their posts--but overall most of us scratched our collective heads

No one did that. Any posts that were edited were done the day of their post. It says right underneath.

I, too, just wasted 10 minutes of my life trying to find this, and you sir are correct, not a single poster changed their post outside of about 10 minutes of initial posting.....Lord J T Shark, you owe me 10 minutes of your life:rant:

His AHL and KLH numbers are better than Kari Ramo's. 6'5" 220 lbs. Just at the age where goalies start to take off. We could look back on this trade in a few years and wonder how the hell Chia turned a BCJHL over ager into a top 10 NHL goalie.

This guy nailed it. Lol.

hate to compare the two but Chia just pull off our Bishop trade ????

Too early to tell, but it looks like absolute robbery. Could you imagine what our record would be if we rolled out a Talbot/Scrubins combo?

I wonder what kind of contract Nilsson gets if he keeps this up. Probably still be reasonable money considering he is a RFA. I think it's time to really go for it. Cheap bonafide starter + McDavid on ELC + weak Pacific division = Great chance to win a cup in the next 2 years.

I never thought I'd see the day when the name "Nilsson" would be a welcome and respected one in Oil Country... :naughty:
