BEING REALISTIC..

I would like to see this for Game 1, assuming NAK is back.

Giroux - Couturier - Voracek
Farabee - Hayes - Konecny
JVR - Laughton - NAK
Raffl - Thompson - Pitlick

Provorov - Niskanen
Sanheim - Myers
Ghost - Braun

Key takeaways:

Stop wasting Giroux and put him a position to produce rather than just "improve depth."

Give JVR a chance to prove his worth in a new series. He played well with Laughton as his Center for a stretch this season.

Have Raffl & Pitlick prop up Tanner Thompson

Give Ghost & Braun another shot to find chemistry. On paper they should work. They need to get more reps in together.

I think Ghost will be in the lineup and it would be the right decision.

JvR... I don‘t have much hope, but I would give him another chance.

I don't think we'll see more room on the ice, but our playmakers will have more time.
We're the better PP, PK and FO team.
The Isles do play a very disciplined system under Trotz, they don’t have the overall team speed the Habs do, if AV leaves the lines the same and spreads out the talent the only negative would be on these boards, or even if he stacks the top line again they will get more chances and Varlly isn’t Price not even close, but at some point the top guys need to step up and get their game back on track, I’m looking at you TK

I agree and think we lose more moving Giroux from W to C than we do Laughton.

it’s weird that the preseason narrative of Laughton being an incredibly important depth piece in the bottom 6 has been all but forgotten

If someone locks our coaching staff in a meat locker for the series we have a good chance.
If they're allowed to do as much damage as they did in the first round, it could get messy.

By the way, AVs already going on about how much of a "greasy" series this is going to be, so expect as many unskilled grinders as possible.

That's b/c we thought he'd be the 4C, not the 2LW. :naughty:

Well in theory we will find out if Montreal was just some nightmare matchup, or if we have some serious issues.
We lost the season series against the Islanders 3-0. They're not a good matchup and they're the one team I would like to have avoided.
I think if we get the series lead and don't allow them to get in our heads like the Penguins did last year and the Caps did this year, we'll win the series. The Hurricanes made short work of them last year after winning Game 1.

Let's put this in perspective, first game Hart was getting his feet wet, Elliott started the other two.

I think the Islanders are a more balanced and deeper squad, but would you want our first line v their first line? Myers, Provorov and Sanheim v any defenseman on their roster? Hart v Varlamov?
Islanders have the overall edge on playoff experience, but we have our share of experienced veterans.
However, we are the much younger team, Barzel and Beauvillier are their only under 25 players and both are in their 3rd season, we have 7 under 25 (not counting Bunnaman).

2 of the 3 losses came in our 1st 20 games while we were still figuring out AV and the 3rd loss came in the final minute of regulation with Elliott in net.

I feel like JVR matches up well with the isles. Didn’t he have some big goals against them?

Ghost is in for sure.

Their center depth is nice. Couts having a target I think will help him. I think the PP will play well and the top 6 will produce. I’m actually pretty optimistic!

I want to see Voracek knock Boychuk's block off

He might have to chase him into the dressing room, Boychuk hasn't been playing.
And I don't think Voracek is taking on Mayfield, that's a big boy, Myers size.

Actually, Islanders have a number of full sized players:
Bailey 6'1 212
Lee 6'3 231
Nelson 6'3 212

Martin 6'3 220
Clutterbuck 5'11 216
Komarov 5'11 209
Brassard 6'1 202

Pulock 6'2 217
Pelech 6'3 218
Mayfield 6'5 223
Leddy 6'0 207
Boychuck 6'2 227

And if the benches empty:
Greiss 6'2 232
Johnston 6'5 235

I'm taking the Islander fight card for my parley.
