OTOH almost every team will rely on their top 4 when protecting a 3rd period lead in a playoff game. It’s pretty much the norm. Heck in Keenan’s era no D man other than Howe, McCrimmon, Marsh and Crossman would have taken a single 3rd period shift in a one goal game.

Giroux didn't make a big splash but he had numerous little plays springing rushes and chances. He had a massively long redirect to Farabee from the wall in our own zone that hit him in stride perfectly. With his back to him. Are you serious G? Were we using the boards as a mirror like Gretzky? Not a good idea when a defensemen is shitting the bed as hard as Niskanen was.

Sure. He doesn't need to sour on him, but he can adjust usage in individual games if someone is clearly struggling.
