FYI regarding the 1.5 update

On Twitter Riz was asked over the past weekend "just wondering if there is any news on the potential release of the EHM patch v1.5"

Riz replied "There's no release date locked for it. Testing is going well, still some minor issues to sort out though" and when then asked "Thinking this year?" he replied "Hopefully yes. Depends a bit on my regular FM duties at work as well."

:( that time two months ago was perfect to play this game... Ok, i will wait.

Since it's always fun to see players from non-traditional hockey countries pop up; I just concluded the 2027 draft (didnt' draft myself since I'm managing a junior hockey team)
While previous drafts haven't been very eventful, this one has though. Very much so even. A German, Belarussian and Latvian player were all taken in the top 10. Belarus had 7 players drafted overall, which might be a record for them. Kazachstan and Ukraine had two each, Austria and Norway had four, same amount as the Czech Rep. France had one, as did Poland, both in the 7th round.

However, there were two curious cases, both were unranked and both were taken in the 4th round.

One from New Zealand, in his third year of eligibility;

and one from a Japan High School team;

Me too as New Zealander! :) The last name Hay is well known in NZ Ice Hockey so a quite realistic prospect from here. Funny was what I have seen some years ago in a EHM session that my real team mate was assigned as GM for the Ice Blacks.

Yeah me too. The Import draft is always fun, because there's always a bunch of players from weird countries who get drafted. Mexico, Taipei, Hungary, Iceland, Romania, China.. None of them make it to the NHL but some do have decent CHL careers. I drafted a Mexican center a few seasons ago, he had pretty good attributes but never made any real progress and only played limited 4th line minutes.

Cool :D can you give any insight to NZ hockey IRL?

There are a few other decent prospects in my current game. In last year's Import draft, two players from NZ got drafted. Both have reached the end of their contracts so they should sign with their CHL clubs (Niagara and Vancouver - both have room for an Import player on their roster)

Right now, I'm a few days away from this season's Import draft, the final rankings had 1 player from NZ:

Being we have a working scraper for EP we will make sure the NZIHL rosters are accurately filled out when the rosters get populated, so keep an eye out for that!

One small thing I'm wondering for 1.5 is if a wing taking face-offs is going to continue to be so discounted regardless of their face-off rating.

Like Claude Giroux for example. 20 LW, 19 C. Consistently one of the top face-off guys in the league. If you leave him at 20 LW, 19 C he sits between 25-30% on face-off percentage. If you swap that to 19 LW, 20 C, he's north of 60%. I see that across the board if you try to use a wing at center or have them take face-offs through unit tactics.

I'm planning to get back into EHM - how much is 1.5 going to fix? Should I wait for it to drop?

Also, what's the best rosters and the like to load?

- Adjustments to player interest levels - especially older players moving back to their native nations to end careers

I had this pop up in a recent Arizona scorched earth playthrough. I had a player become unhappy around 34 years old after playing in Arizona for 16 years and winning 5 cups because he "wanted to finish his career in Canada"

however once his contract expired he re-signed with us and was no longer unhappy. He finished his career happy and "proud to be play at Arizona" even though the Coyotes were not one of his favorite teams.

Is this something that is being addressed or is it not really that much of a bug.

regardless all these changes seem wonderful!

I hope someone remakes the 1998 DB when 1.5 comes out. I really like using that database, but I've found it kinda easy to game at this point. I think adding the "dislike team/staff" makes it too easy to acquire players and "likes team/staff" makes it too easy to sell off players for massive returns. Just as an example, here were some trades I made in my most recent game with Pittsburgh:

Jagr and Skudra to Washington for Gonchar, Kolzig and Zednik (I don't think this one is that bad, since 3 years of 192 CA Jagr is really valuable, but it makes me a juggernaut in the future)
A pending UFA Straka to Buffalo for Satan, Peca and a 175 PA Campbell
A pending UFA Hatcher to Dallas for Langenbrunner
Hrdina to Detroit for a 198 PA Datsyuk
Kasparitis to Boston for McLaren, followed by McLaren to Nashville for Timonen (Kasparitis and McLaren both suck in EHM since they're hitters with 140s PA, while Timonen had like a 165 PA as a playmaking D)

You can abuse that database if you know who to target. Primeau is another good one, in a previous simulation I did Straka for Primeau and a future 1st. That future 1st turned into 4th overall, which was Duncan Keith. I once had a game where I turned spare parts into Mogilny, then traded Mogilny for Satan, Campbell and another prospect and then traded Satan for Alfredsson. It's just less fun when you can game the computer GMs like that.

I'm well underway into a 2000-2001 database, working with ECK and the team to develop it. Pretty excited, but still lot's of grunt work to do.

e: Couldn't handle Messier being on the Canucks in 98 so went with 2000

That's really good to hear, I like playing the older DBs more than the current DBs. I want to see if I can do better than what actual teams did :laugh:

The only thing I'd say is make sure to not abuse the like or dislike staff or team thing. I think it makes sense in some DBs, like in the newest ECK DB which has the Oilers as a "disliked club" for Puljujarvi (which makes his trade price much more realistic), but it just never worked in the 1998 DB for some reason. Although that may be something that changes with 1.5 too.
