It's gonna be hard to make room for RHP, Farrell, Slaf or Ylonen. Who's gonna take Hoffman or Armia or Edmundson off our hands ? We know that nobody would take Gally.

Predictions:
Hoffman: raise his value (1st and 2nd line...3rd line, at worst) 'cause he should/will be traded before the trade deadline (or trade him earlier while he's healthy!).
Edmundson: could be traded this Summer/Fall (or again they will risk it and wait 'til the trade deadline).
Gallagher: we will need to keep him (and his salary) for at least another season (or two) before trading him.
Armia: same as Gallagher (will need to keep him another year or two before trading him).

RHP, Farrell, Ylonen, Hutson, Caufield, Gallagher, Mesar (and more!)...we're gonna need more younger Josh Andersons and younger Ben Chiarots in the near future!! (to protect the smaller player we have..will have!).

It's gonna be hard to make room for RHP, Farrell, Slaf or Ylonen. Who's gonna take Hoffman or Armia or Edmundson off our hands ? We know that nobody would take Gally.

There's plenty of room at forward, especially if like last year they aren't scared to send Pitlick down to the AHL, and healthy scratch Armia. If the young guys have a good camp they'll make the team, if they think they've already made it and have a bad/so-so camp they'll get sent down.

3 options

1. LTIR before opening day and we maximize his cap ($83.5 & $10.5m). Is the worst option as it kills our cap space on day 1, and we can't open up or accrue space.

2. Don't use LTIR at all unless we need to do it due to injury. That means he's only on IR not LTIR to start season. Doing it this way means we get the full use of his $10.5m during the season if we need it. It also allows us to accrue cap space if we don't. However, it gives us a $73m cap for rest of team if we do it this way.

3. Do what we did last year with Byron. Maximize Price's LTIR before opening day then put another player on LTIR on opening day to use as cap space. We do not accrue space doing this either, but might still be best option. We would need to trade for a short-term LTIR player. Someone like Jake Muzzin from Toronto if Toronto doesn’t want to use LTIR and instead accrue cap space.

Hughes owes nothing to Hoffman, knows even at 50% nobody will take him at the deadline ,and he adds nothing to the NHL team except block a spot for another player. Send him as a veteran to Laval, if he prefers counting his money at home to playing, you terminate his contract.

I'm sorry to say I still do not understand how this works wrt to LTIR and accruing cap space. I've tried to read, really, but it doesn't click for me.
