While others are much tougher to narrow down

Denzel Washington
Malcom X or Training Day

Tom Cruise
Top Gun, Mission Impossible, or Jerry McGuire

Harrison Ford
Han Solo or Indiana Jones

Ian McKellen
Lord Of The Rings or X-Men

Julia Roberts
Erin Brockovich or Pretty Woman

Samuel Jackson
Pulp Fiction or the Marvel films

Al Pacino
The Godfather or Scarface

Jim Carrey
Ace Ventura, The Mask or Dumb & Dumber

Bolded are my picks, which I feel pretty confident in.

Mike Myers
Wayne's World or Austin Powers?

Austin Powers, it definitely has a more widespread presence than Wayne's World, which was slightly more niche.

the real debate.....Adam Sandler

is he Billy Madison or Happy Gilmore

Billy Madison is the more quintessential Sandler role, but again, Happy Gilmore finds its way into conversations/references/etc. a bit more, so might have to go with Happy.

Jumping off of that, Christopher McDonald is Shooter McGavin always and forever.

I'll toss a couple more in:

Chris Tucker: James Carter or Ruby Rhod?

Gary Oldman: Stansfield or Jean-Baptiste Emanuel Zorg?

Meryl Streep: ?

Figured Oldman would be tough. He's a case where his best work is in less popular movies, and his work in more popular franchises (Batman, Harry Potter), while solid, doesn't leave much of an impression (as it shouldn't).

Papillon!
McQueen is my favorite all-time actor so that's a great choice! I mean you could go Le Mans, Cincinnati Kid, Towering Inferno, Junior Bonner, The Getaway, Tom Horn, The Reivers, The War Lovers, The Sand Pebbles, or my personal choice-The Thomas Crown Affair.

Again, tough to separate best from iconic, but I think Ethan Hawke in First Reformed could give any role he's had a run for its money, even though it wasn't the biggest movie.

I'd think The Ten Commandments, but, yeah, that's a tough one

I'd definitely go with Grease for Travolta though
I'd go off the board and say Soylent Green for Heston, but I'm a fan of almost all of his stuff so that's pretty obscure for the average fan. I love Travolta in about five movies but I don't like a good portion of his stuff which is odd. But him strutting down the street in Fever in the opening scene that's what I think of when I think iconic.

Nic Cage would also be tricky. Lotta options to choose from.
Toss-up between Con Air and Face/Off I think. Vampire's Kiss is pretty iconic but I don't think the movie is well-known enough.

I think Adaptation is probably his best movie and performance though.

Sean Astin is a toss-up between Lord of the Rings and Rudy. Maybe some would say The Goonies.

It's hard to go against The Godfather when it comes to Brando

Nah, not a toss-up. It has to be Lord of the Rings for the sheer universal success of that franchise

Nobody in Asia knows about Rudy

Anyone want to take a stab at Peter Sellers?

I always associate him with Dr. Strangelove, but he played multiple roles in that film, so maybe it's The Pink Panther by default
