Unexpected turn of events, seems to of found a home in chicago and is currently a PPG player in Chi-Town.

The Patrick Kane effect or has he found his game?

I’m very happy for Strome. He’s a good kid.

I’m also glad to see Chicago potentially finding their new stars in DeBrincat and Strome to one day replace the old guard. I wouldn’t mind seeing some more continued Chicago dominance of the West.

Good, now we’re getting into the “unsustainable” discussions. These will be fun to read in the future, keep them coming.

You're saying that like the suggestion that Strome likely won't continue having an onSH% that has never been sustained in the history of the league is some kind of implausible hot take.

Pretty crazy how many people were writing him off early. He was producing everywhere he played.

Since the trade at 5v5. League ranking for forwards with at least 250 mins played in parenthesis.

CF%: 44.29 (323rd)
SCF%: 42.21 (338th)
HDCF%: 38.64 (340th)

onSH%: 14.23 (3rd)

He's getting absolutely brutalized at 5v5, but his insanely high onSH% is covering it up.

The unsustainable argument is far from outlandish.

My retort was to the general attitude that has surrounded this trade since it took place. It began with his skating ability hindering him from ever living up to his potential (clearly false). Now its people saying he'll come back down to earth. It's fun to tease all the narratives that've surrounded this, but since you clearly put thought and research into it, yea he's obviously not going to be producing at the 1.57 P/G clip he has been over the last 14 games (a big contributor to you onSH% research). However, I don't think it's crazy to think the Hawks scored a perennial 70-80 point player. If you think otherwise, that's fine, we can agree to disagree.

The Hawks are just smoke and mirrors. He isn't some defensive dynamo. He's an average skating 2C with great vision who really understands hockey. He's lucky like the rest of the team is lucky. That doesn't mean he isn't a 55-70 point guy. He can be that.

I don't disagree. I'm a big fan of Strome.

I'm just saying people should probably pump the brakes on thinking he's legitimately a point-per-game player right now.

I don't think he is either but I don't think that many people think he's a PPG game, just not the bust everyone said he was. He has the between the ears stuff thats really elite. It makes me hopeful for the future, but he needs better edges, he can't turn for shit and defensively it shows.
