Agreed, he looked quite promising from his ~18-21 year old seasons, but the last couple years, he’s been a borderline NHLer. At some point, the potential has to turn into real NHL impact, and so far it hasn’t. Not good enough offensively for a top 6 role, and his defence, skating and compete hasn’t been good enough for a bottom 6 role.

Small point though - it was a qualifying offer, not an arbitration award, and it was $2.445 mil, not $2 mil. But your main point stands - he’s just not good enough to be worth his qualifying offer. He’ll get a contract from somebody, but it won’t be for $2.445 mil, he gets about half that IMO.
