I think DSP is taking a big risk. I can see the youth movement continuing, unless we foresee one of the kids being our 13. I predict DSP will not get into as many games as he thinks he will.
He sat out a lot of the RS this year too then came up huge when it mattered. He obviously knows he still has stuff to prove. Good on him. He’s still young so he’s maybe not one of the “kids” but he’s not a grizzled vet either. Love his attitude and determination.

There's little risk here for him. If he had interest from other teams, that isn't likely to change unless he tanks. He's got an affordable deal and the market just determined he has trade value. If a kid beats him out of a spot, it would behoove Mac to trade Devo somewhere he's wanted. He's UFA next year, so may as well get something for him if he doesn't figure into your immediate plans.

As long as he plays well, he'll be in good position next year whether we keep him or not.

There is risk everywhere. Hockey is a violent sport. We hear many people saying that 8th year is huge and a big advantage for UFAs.

A young guy choosing a one year over a 2, is a risk. It's minimal, but its a risk nonetheless. Yeah he got some top line time, but was otherwise an 11/12.

I have a sneaking suspicion our team is no longer afraid to use young players, and expect him to be pushed a bit. Axel, Stormy, Shane, Stephenson... at least he is a right shot which separates him from basically all our future B6s looking for jobs. We may scratch him to get young guy games / save him for the loffs. Lets see if he gets 75 games again.

Any player that plays well is in good shape for their next contract.
