It absolutely matters. The Flames basically have their ticket to the playoffs punched because this team refuses to show up against them.

Saturday is an absolute ****ing must win. No ifs ands or buts, no excuses.

False. Flames are in one of the worst spots amongst the teams battling for a playoff spot due to the fact they only have 17 RW's. As of right now, they would lose in a tiebreaker with ALL of the teams currently battling for a playoff spot. They are also at a -12 in goal differential as well, which goes along with the fact that they basically need OT/SO to win games.

Does not change the fact that we gotta quit giving them points. We not only need to beat them in regulation but we need to beat them badly in all aspects to try to break their spirit.

That's completely false.

RNH was on the third line the first game and then moved up

Your looking at practice lines not game lines. Also you can argue with Tippett that it was completely false.

Tippett said in yesterdays press conference Yamo started with Haas and Nygard and he intended on using Benson with Haas possibly to start as well barring further injury or illness.

Start at 4:47 to 5:43 - played with Haas and Nygard and I was at the game Dec 31 and that’s what I recall as well.

The last game was a coin toss and could have gone either way. Game prior, the team lost after giving up the PP goal when Kassian went bonkers. The first game in December was the only one where they didn't show up to play and that was when they were slumping.

5 on 5 we have outperformed them lately too but they are getting the goaltending and bounces. Every game from here on out has to be a statement. Not so much wins(although we need those) but in showing up and outworking every team. We need to continue to be difficult to play against. We need the Larsson from last night to show up.

Man that hit behind the net by Larsson. He never runs around looking for big hits and taking himself out of position but when one lands in his lap its boom take a seat bud. Contrast that to the way Tkachuck plays the game.

They went 6-1-2 for the month of January. The effort and compete level, as well as results were way better than the month prior. They have beaten 8 of the top 9 teams in the NHL standings so far this year. Only team they haven't beaten is TB who they have not played yet.

You and Tippett both recall wrong.

Yamamoto played 10:22 at 5v5 in his first game of the season. He played 9:22 of that with Draisaitl. He was on the ice for 10 seconds with Haas.

Yamamoto was gifted a spot from shift one with Draisaitl and he's run with it. But the notion that he worked his way up the lineup is a fabrication.

And they have to keep that going and crank it up a little more. Really we want to be in teams heads before we play them as far as work ethic. It has to start with Calgary tonight, and I suspect that Tkachuk will be his dirty old coward self tonight. Bank on that.

It matters. It's not a must-win in any remote mathematical sense.

The Flames are less likely to make the playoffs today than the Oilers.

Calm down.

Not only that but to say that the Oilers "refused to show up" against the Flames is absurd. The last two games were playoff type battles that could have gone either way.

It's so odd that we still have these chicken littles posting after a 7-1-2 stretch beating a lot of playoff teams in the process. Try to enjoy the ride at least a little bit FFS.

How good is Dave Tippet? Hitch and Todd gave up way too early on splitting McD/Drai and when they did they often put RNH with McD. If we can get one more top six forward we are in good shape, thanks to Tippet.

In fairness to the other guys, Tippett has more to work with. He has a top 6 forward and a top 4 Dman that the other two didn't have and I'd also say that Sheahan and Archibald are the best bottom 6 players that the Oilers have had in the McDavid era as sad as that is.

I didn't think the Flames game was that good on the part of either team because all of the top players had non stellar games.

The Blues game last night was much better. The Blues had the expected guys going and the Oilers did too albeit the first line struggled. But it was a much better played game by both clubs imo.

The first line is drawing away the top defenders from each team, it is why the 2nd unit is destroying other teams in the head to head matchup. When you can run the top two scorers in the league on seperate lines your team gets so much better. Get a quicker LW on the top unit and teams will scramble to stop 6 players.

This place is so much better when the Oilers play like they did tonight.

Some of the more insightful posts I’ve seen in awhile around here are in this thread. We’re collectively a very knowledgeable fan base so it’s nice to see it.

Wanted to bring this up again. Yes we are. I always love lurking here.

I’m excited to see how a rematch BoA goes with the teams tied in standings.

Great win by the team last night. Thought this might be one of those trap type games where they overlook it, moving ahead to tonights tilt against the hated Flamers. But in hindsight, probably the best thing was that it was a team like the Blues, as opposed to some cellar dweller so they could really focus.

For all the grief Drai takes on here, a whole lot of it earned, and a bunch of it really dumb and thoughtless, a huge shoutout to the the big Kraut for his performance. Absolutely dominant and best player on the ice by a long shot for either team. When he focuses and gets those legs moving, he is hard to stop. Here's hoping he can do it again tonight, but maybe this one is Connor's baby.

Nurse was a bit of a tire fire out there, making some really odd body positioning decisions.

Koski was solid, but I think he'd like to have Perron's goal back.

Yamo was brilliant again, and Nuge was right there too. Amazing what one guy inserted into the lineup can change the dynamics of 2 entire lines.

And the final cherry on top was when the pest Perron got dinged with the puck with no time left on the clock.

I really do like Archie up there, but I'm not sure that is sustainable in the long run. We need a bonafide gunner up there. As well, Archie is very valuable on that 3rd line and providing some speed there. Props to him for making a fantastic move on the empty netter. (sorry to those on here who think empty netters are a piece of cake.:D) When Neal comes back, maybe you put him on the 3rd line, but I don't think he'd do well in the role. Pretty expensive piece of PP specialist, that boy.

Larsson is automatically protected, so no, it makes absolutely no sense.

Forgot to mention Larsson in my post game comments, but he was a freaking beast out there. Destroyed everything near him, and moved the puck smartly. These are the heavy type games where he shines. And if we make the dance, he'll be doing it every single night.

Can you imagine the TV ratings if she (and others like her) could play pro, and the International Tennis Federation adjusted the rules for the dress code?

She wouldn't last half a set in that outfit...lol....would need to go the Simona Halep route and get a reduction.

Draisaitl can be really frustrating at times, but when he's on he's utterly dominant. The idea that he's consistently better or more important than McDavid is dead wrong, but on his day he can defintely look it.

Can I just say that it's nice to have good coaching for a change? Also, on a related note, I love the set play that our second line uses when the faceoff is at the offensive left circle with Drai winning the draw to Nuge who shoots it.

No. Not even close! They are actually overrated. Tampa Bay is best by a fair margin. Followed by Boston.

I do think there are a couple teams out East that are better on paper, but it's kind of hard to say "not even close" to the defending Champions that are currently way ahead of the entire field in their conference.
