As a Wings fan I'm at the point where I'm sick, and tired of the league/networks dragging this Cup Finals on, and on to a point where I could care less about who wins...I just want the draft damnit!

? The NHL draft has been held in June since 1967.

The one year when there were no playoffs ('04 - '05 season), the draft was actually held on July 30th.

Broberg is interesting to me over Byram now. Finding out he was compared to Reilly really made my stomach go sour (Byram). Though if he gets picked at 5 I could live with Broberg at 6.

Plus I bet our Sweden scout has seen him a bunch and if he and lids approve I can fall in line with their exp.

Where on earth did you see a Reilly comparison for Byram? All i ever see is Doughty.

Didn't realize what this was.
Noticed the ONE guy that had Byram ranked low, like me. Decided to look into those rankings.
Noticed he also had Broberg and Caufield ranked very high, like me.
Noticed he had Dach ranked at 3, like me.
Start wondering what scouting expert this must be. Certainly he is a well respected genius.
It is me. I am an idiot.

If it was obvious to the poster I was responding to, he wouldn't have been complaining about the playoffs dragging on....

You're just another one of those people that like to take things out of context. The only thing obvious here is your personality issues.

Whatever, then he shouldn't be complaining about the length of the playoffs because it doesn't affect the draft date.
You're missing the point here.

The final round took weeks to complete...I'm anxious for the draft...That is all.

Alright everyone, here's my mock for this year. I think that if we can leave the draft with one of Turcotte, Byram, Zegras, or Dach we'll be in great shape. I think at this moment though I'd prefer Dach over Zegras. Really looking forward to seeing how it all plays out next week and I'm excited to read what you all have to say on draft day. Besides Byram and Turcotte who's the guy you want the Wings to take the most?

  1. New Jersey - Hughes
  2. Rangers - Kakko
  3. Chicago - Turcotte
  4. Colorado - Dach
  5. Los Angeles - Byram
  6. Detroit - Zegras
  7. Buffalo - Caufield
  8. Edmonton - Boldy
  9. Anaheim - Cozens
  10. Vancouver - Krebs
  11. Philadelphia - Podkolzin
  12. Minnesota - Newhook
  13. Florida - Broberg
  14. Arizona - Kaliyev
  15. Montreal - Seider
  16. Colorado - York
  17. Vegas - Lavoie
  18. Dallas - Soderstrom
  19. Ottawa - Tomasino
  20. New York - Knight
  21. Pittsburgh - Harley
  22. Los Angeles - Suzuki
  23. Islanders - Brink
  24. Nashville - Heinola
  25. Washington - Dorofeyev
  26. Calgary - Tracey
  27. Tampa Bay - Pelletier
  28. Carolina - Puistola
  29. Buffalo - Johnson
  30. Boston- M Robertson
  31. St Louis - Grewe

Hughes

Kakko

Byram
Dach
Turcotte

Zegras
Cozens
Krebs
Boldy
Podkolzin
Caufield

kind of an awkward number of players in 11 but i've been hyper focused on the 6th overall and honestly posting anything past that would be me just throwing names out there for the sake of it

groupings and size of the gaps between them are intentional here, basically I view it as there being about a half tier between Hughes and Kakko, about a full tier between Kakko and the Byram/Dach/Turcotte grouping and then about another half tier between those and the rest of my list

edit: just saw the thing about Krebs injury, that's probably enough for me to drop him from 6th to 8th on my list so changed it slightly

my final list after another week to stew it over:

Hughes

Kakko

Byram
Dach
Turcotte

Zegras
Boldy
Cozens
Krebs
Podkolzin
Caufield

not a ton of change,my top 5 was pretty set in stone already at this point

i'm a bit higher on Boldy than I was a week ago and a bit lower on Caufield(not reflected in the rankings here, but i'm kinda flirting with the idea of moving him out of that 4th tier entirely)

it's not enough to push him too far down on my list but Krebs would probably still be 6th for me if not for his injury

My final top 32

1. Hughes
2. KK
3. Turcotte
4. Byram
5. Boldy
6. Caufield
7. Zegras
8. Krebs
9. Dach
10. Broberg
11. Newhook
12. Podkolzin
13. York
14. Kaliyev
15. Puistola
16. Cozens
17. Hoglander
18. Lavoie
19. Soderstrom
20. Brink
21. Seider
22. Harely
23. Tomasino
24. Suzuki
25. Heinola
26. Rees
27. Dorofeyev
28. Pelletier
29. Tracey
30. Honka
31. Thomson
32. Grewe

Not a ton of change. I'm higher on Turcotte, would almost say he and KK are tied for my #2 spot, as well as Krebs, Dach and Soderstrom. Lower expectations for Podkolzin and Tomasino. Would be mightily happy with anyone in the consensus top 10 besides Cozens. We shall soon find out.

So after day 1 this is what the draft board looks like. It was quite the eventful first round with there being a run on defenceman that I would say was unexpected. That run has meant that some players I had highly ranked have fallen far lower than I could have imagined.

My list for 35 is Kaliyev -> Brink -> Fagemo -> Legare -> Robertson. I have no idea what the later picks will look like, but hopefully the forwards continue to fall.

I have a feeling they will pick a Finn today, so here are some of my favorites. There are lots of other guys who could be ranked, however these are the ones I've seen enough and consider having enough upside or "impact potential" worth a pick.

Round 2: Patrik Puistola
Round 3: Tuukka Tieksola, Antti Tuomisto, Anttoni Honka
Round 5: Matias Mäntykivi, Wiljami Myllylä, Kristian Tanus
Round 6: Santeri Airola

Here's two rankings of Finnish players in case someone wants to read more.
