Plus the situation last night was goalie and forward both playing the puck - not in the crease - and whatever incidental contact happened was the natural flow of the play. Forward won the puck; goalie was over committed. Wrap around goal.
How is anything wrong with that?
NHL really needs to clarify its rules and apply them in a consistent fashion. No other sport, including basketball (with all of its calls, several dozen a game) has officiating as random and result changing as the NHL. It's a real black eye for the league.
Don’t ever expect it to change, not unless the league gets burned in an event that would actually draw some attention and they can be scrutinized for it. I was trying to remember if there was ever a time the team found itself in a situation like this and the 1997 playoffs was the only thing I could think of. 2nd round, against the Rangers, I believe we lost 3 goals in that series because of that obnoxious foot in the crease rule (likely cost them any chance in that series). It had no business being in the game but was still in place the following season. All it took was the cup clinching goal being scored in that fashion for the league to completely brush over it. Shit heads.
Like you said, black eye for the league. There is no rhyme or reason for anything they do. Perfectly fine goals, wiped off the board for no reason. Situations that deserve interpretation, they waste their time interpreting unnecessary bull shit instead. Its really infuriating. Just imagine trying to introduce the sport to a first time observer. It would be impossible to explain the standings let alone the rules of the game. It’s mind boggling how much the game has been screwed around with over the last two decades.
