Proposal: Dougie Hamilton for Taylor Hall?

Had nothing to do with Nash in case you missed those playoffs.

I'm not suggesting it did. I'm saying there's no formula that says a cup winning team needs some epic Dman. The Pens did it without a Doughty/Keith level player for example. The Canucks took us to 7 without any such dman.

You win the cup by being better, deeper and healthier than the other guys. But you don't need one of the best 8-10 D on your team to do it. There's nothing to support that idea. If it was that easy, Bourque would have had a cup in Boston...

If this were a different team, I might make that deal, but this is a team that doesn't really have a problem at LW, but is shallow at the top of the D.

So it is suggested we open up a huge hole in our top D pairing to address a mostly non-existent hole elsewhere? When we have another defense hole looming in Chara aging?

Hell to the no. Are we hoping that Hall is a still a gamebreaker on his off wing? Or are we just starstruck?

Not only are true #1 D harder to find than wingers, they also take a lot longer to develop. I'd probably trade any player 1 for 1 outside of Bergeron and Dougie for Hall.

I agree with the others here, Dougie is our future on defense and top line wingers are easier to come by. Unless you do this deal and somehow get a defenseman of Dougie's caliber by trading Lucic or Marchand, it won't make sense. Even going in that direction doesn't make much sense either.

Dougie still makes mistakes but he is already very good and will be our #1D of the future. I think if you're for trading him for Taylor Hall you are grossly undervaluing how good Hamilton is going to be.

Yeah lets move one of the only young stud defenseman this team has for a LW that probably wouldn't do well in Claude's system.

Seidenberg and Chara are both old
Krug is a bottom pairing PP specialist
Miller is bottom pairing tough guy
McQuaid is a bottom pairing tough guy who seems to miss a bunch of games
Trotman is soft and meh
Bartkowski is kinda off and on

Only young guy other than Hamilton who can make an impact IMO is Morrow.

I would be leery of that if I were them,Hamilton is more erratic than any defenseman I can remember. At times he looks great, especially offensively and then he looks like a bumbling moron a minute later. I don't remember those types of highs and lows with any other high end young Bruin defenseman. Thinking back to Kluzak's development and he was nothing like that. Where it ends nobody knows.

he drives me nuts too with erratic play but he is just a kid. no way i give up on him yet, juliens system would suffocate hall anyways.

Hmmm???

Miller is a bottom pairing tough guy?

not taking a shot at you, but i get what you are saying. Miller is supposed to be an aggressive dman who hits and fights.

Miller has 11 PIMS this season. Many a time this team needed some kind of wake up call. IMO Miller has not done his job at all.

The guy did his shoulder while fighting. Can you blame him for not immediately diving into another bout?

He missed a good chunk of games after landing Awkwardly after a fight. Could still be a little injured or gun shy from that fight.

Team def needs more toughness

I wouldn't move Hamilton for Hall. Straight up, value for value, across the nhl, I can understand Hall's trade value being higher, but considering organizational philosophy I think Boston believes wingers hold less value than defenseman.

Without Dougie, the future at D takes a huge hit as Chara will continue to decline. I'm not an expert at projecting prospects, but I think the bruins would have Morrow as their highest rated D prospect. Not a problem with Hamilton in the fold, but without him you'd have to start looking for another potential franchise defenseman immediately.

So to summarize, Hamilton for Hall, in a vacuum would be a win for the team getting Hall. However, Boston needs Hamilton more than Hall, so I wouldn't make the trade.

In a heartbeat.

Hall definitely has more value than Hamilton around the league.

The fans here over value Hamilton because its the one Dman we have that could potentially anchor the 1st pair in the future.

Chara not getting younger, no D-man within this organization close to being able to log the minutes Dougie does now and I`ll suggest will moving forward, no cap space to add such a player= not a chance I move Dougie for Hall

Love Hall`s speed, skill, but D wins, and when you have a 21 year old kid who`s still developing yet is already making great strides (makes mistakes as every 21 year old does) who can move the puck up ice, is mobile, you just don`t move him IMO

I am just wondering what defensemen on the Bruins plays without making any mistakes? Taylor Hall was never known for his defensive play. Adam Henrique was the player from the Spitfires team that would have been great in Claudes system.

Dougie means more to us than Hall would, so no. He would definitely be the first player EDM asks for, but no.

Dougie for Hall

In a season or 2 Chara retires and Seids retires, is traded or is still on this team as a slow aging d man.

WHO is the #2 D?

Seidenberg and who?

Who is in the top 4?

This team isn't as deep on D as they thought they were.
