For Ottawa fans sake I hope a good deal gets done

If we re-sign Duchene then giving Colorado our first will be much easier to take.

Goes from one of the worst trades in history to just "bad" and if, somehow, the Sens have a good finish to the season and finish out of the bottom 5 the trade becomes rather good for Ottawa (while remaining great for Colorado and Nashville).

Its almost impossible to get a top line C via trade so you gotta pay the price.

What was even discussed? If Ottawa is serious about keeping Duchene Dorion would have sent out an actual contract offer months ago. Looks like a PR move to please the dummies who think Duchene is staying and make sure that the Sens management can say that they did everything they could in the situation.

Apparently the meeting was to talk about what Duchene wants, and they need an answer 2 weeks before the TDL.
Also one of the companies involved with the new project to bring the Sens Downtown is in LA, so Dorion was probably meeting with them as well people are speculating.

Hopefully Dorion didn’t do any talking. He only knows how to make situations worse.

Not to worry lots of time to figure it all out.

I wouldn't say lots of time. If he doesn't have a deal by the TDL, then the Sens have to trade him. No way can they risk him walking for nothing.

That being said, if (big if) they can sign Duchene then the trade with the Avs doesn't look so bad.

I don't see the point in Ottawa spending so much $ on him. The only reason would be to justify giving up the potential lottery pick.

Duchene left Colorado because he didn't want to be in a rebuild I can't see him staying in Ottawa

We're going to find out here soon how truthful that comment was. All he has to do is hold out a month and he'll get traded to a competing team and get that playoff hockey he wants. Then he pretty much gets to pick from 30 teams, ala Tavares light.

Or he can sign in Ottawa and sit through another long rebuild. But hey, close to home! Knowing the Avs luck he'll end up back in the Central.

If Buffalo can keep Skinner they would be a great fit then you'd have Eichel and Skinner on one line, Duchene and Reinhart on another and they'd be looking pretty good up front
