IDK, I've seen people use that phrase with at least 3 apparent distinct meanings here, so I'd guess it's just a buzzword for them to signify something "bad" the "left" is doing

It's a useless term. By accusing the "other" side of virtue signalling you're tacitly implying that it's a bad thing, while at the same time being blissfully unaware that the action of doing so is virtue signalling to "their" side, which must also be a bad thing.

Well, I was born and raised in Texas, I always believed in less government and that the people can do a better job then a politician. I personally believe that immigration ain’t what it use to be. Old school immigrants loved America and believe in OUR values, principles and morals. Not so much anymore, now we have immigrants who waive foreign flags, want handouts and want to change things.

Immigration hurts the American citizens when it’s too much and not the right kind. Immigration means lower wages, why hire an American when you can hire an illegal or a green card man for less ?
There are a lot of people who believe in small government and free market enterprise, right until the point where it impacts their own demographic, in which case suddenly we need the government to protect workers from the scourge of other people who can work. The very market conditions you champion are why "green card men" are being hired for less money than you will accept. I notice people are very happy to tell people to pull themselves up by their bootstraps, right up until the point when they have to compete with this group of people who grew up accustomed to sacrifices the comfortable class won't make. All it takes is getting a whiff of working class life and suddenly there's socialist rhetoric in the rural areas.

something something cancel culture, something something being too sensitive.

it was never about the poppies and this why a public figure like Cherry who has influence has the responsibility to carefully choose his words. You couldn’t make this up if you tried.

Pressprogress is basically a far left wing blog, but many modern veterans do have a legitimate grievance with the legion that predates this poppy fury. That's a topic for another thread, but I doubt they will be around for much longer.

Get real....
Get real what? Are you going to argue that that is not the flag of the traitorous Confederacy? Any state that once flew flag were in open rebellion against the United States. People serving under that flag murdered Constitution loving Americans in an illegal act of war and treachery.

Any American citizen in 2019 that still flies that symbol of treason, is being unfaithful to the United States and is a great offense to the veterans of the Civil War that paid with their lives defending the United States.

Um, what?
Last night, Donnie kept invoking Orr’s name during his interview on an American opinion show. Knowing what I know about Orr, I would like definitive proof from Orr’s mouth himself that he supports Cherry or watches that particular show, seems very out of character for Orr.

The truth is probably that Cherry was name dropping Orr’s name like he always does. I’d reserve judgement unless Orr makes his own statement.

Ok but this story has nothing to do with that. The people referred to in this story are mad at the legion because they didn’t support Cherry. Now they want to boycott the legion. So it had nothing to do with poppies and everything to do with immigration. That the story was reported by a left leaning blog doesn’t change that. I understand that the message is an inconvenient truth, but don’t blame the messenger because you don’t like the message.

Oh, so it wasn't Cherry's comments that were racist... it was people's interpretation that was racist. Gotch ya.
I think if you read what I said, you’ll understand that that isn’t at all what I wrote. To reiterate. Cherry’s comments weren’t explicitly racist but contained heavy racial undertones, and picking up on those undertones and acknowledging them isn’t racism but rather a sign of critical thinking.

Town NHL hates !
Again, what is more racist... what Don Cherry actually said, or people's interpretation of what was said??

If saying "you" or "our milk and honey" is racist, we're in deep trouble. Heck, you said it in the following statement!

Don Cherry was clearly talking to everyone regarding honouring our soldiers... at least to me, he was...

It's a mix of everything he said.

He said ''You people''. Okay it applies to everyone.

''Who like OUR milk and honey''...okay we're getting a better picture, OUR excludes all born Canadians citizens.

Then he adds the part about downtown Toronto and Mississauga and the comparison with small towns vs big towns folks. Demographics remove all blur and show what he wanted to pass as a message and to whom.
