99% on that being not true.
Further proof that our Players are losers. When things get hard they crack everytime and use the ol'confidence excuse.Either you can get the job done when it matters or else
we'll have to go else where. The winning at the end of the season to build confidence for the next season is beyond ****ing embarrassing.

Winning players win when it matters and do not take it as actual progress if you are winning against teams at the end of the season when these teams no longer give a **** anymore.

Dmen picked 1st track record has not been all that great, Nurse could very well end up as good or better

Many years in a row now this Oilers club has won down the final stretch when it was absolutely meaningless. Nothing good has come from it, no 'winning attitudes,' 'confidence for next season,' etc...

These kids gotta figure it out on their own, at the start of the season. Showing up and giving/not giving a damn is a decision that can be made before stepping on the ice.

I'll say the same as I did before the RNH draft and the Yakupov draft: a 1st overall is not the solution for this team's troubles.

RNH was not the second coming of Crosby, Yakupov was not the next Ovechkin and Ekblad is not Weber...

Ekblad is still the best option, as there's no other defenseman that the Oilers have any chance of acquiring through free agency or trades this offseason.

Oilers should go after Schultz Gilbert and Potter in the off season I think it would solidify our defence.

Best option for what exactly?

It seems as if whenever we want to fill a need on this team it is always by drafting another number one pick.

Everyone is obsessed with getting a "Weber-defenseman". That would be nice but it is not the solution to everything (just look at Weber in NSH...).

Again, this looks like the same story all over again. We had no 1st line center: RNH. We needed a big, hitting, 1st line winger: Yakupov.

IMO opinion it is wrong to keep looking for a franchise player for each position of the team. It would be better to look for a veteran 2nd pair defenseman. What we need is experienced players who can bring stability to the defense and give advice to our D-prospects, even if it is not by being a clear cut number 1 D.

Nuge would of been fine with experienced wingers. Yak would of been fine with an experienced center. Instead we toss them in with other quite young players and hoped they came out fine.

I am aware of that, both are obviously (still) amazing talents. What I am trying to say is that you can have all the amazing talents in the world and still get nowhere. That is exactly why I am saying that instead of trying to find another franchise player we should focus on the stability of the group we have by adding experience. Even though some supporters may be against it and call it useless I still think that the team needs to try to win every single game even if we have no chance of reaching the playoffs.

I bet Ekblad will be a great defenseman but at the same time chances are that it will take him several years to get there.

The team is trying to win each game they play (whether we want them to or not)... they simply are not good enough to do so... nowhere close.

The draft is where you pick prospects to improve the team in the future. (3-5 year time horizon which IS important).

The summer is where MacT makes his moves to improve the team in the coming season (1-2 year time horizon... which IS important).

Those two areas are separate and distinct... ignore either (or underperform in either area) and the team will not have immediate or long-term success (which we've clearly seen).

Let's acquire 2 top 4 defense men form that list
Let's give remaining 10 games for young guys to adjust NHL
Heck!Winning matters. Let's see who are natural born losers and get rid of them during the off season

This team isn't good enough to win in meaningful ways right now. The only wins we will be getting will be thanks to goalies doing back flips in net and those kinds of wins only fool people currently in the Oilers organization that are desperate for any signs things are improving.

Lots of stuff still left to fix before the team will do anything worthwhile. Poor player mix, bad coaching and terrible team culture from the POHO down.
