Does Malkin's 2012-13 KHL season add to his legacy?

I'm not disagreeing with your premise. My comment was more to point out the paradox of a certain poster being one of the first to rail against the accomplishments of past players who excelled in leagues he perceives as not being equal to the current NHL, while simultaneously jumping in to encourage more credit directed Malkin's way for his performance in a league surely weaker than the current NHL.

There is no paradox though as one needs to put into context every season for every player.

Renat Mamashev was highest scorer in lockout season in KHL from Ds and did not crack to Devils roster in training camp before 14-15

Stamkos has outscored(goals) Malkin while playing fewer games and without the benefit of playing with another elite player like Crosby.

This is without considering players with five seasons or less of experience.

In terms of scoring once you get past the glitter of honours in terms of actual production(points) Malkin is closer to the likes of Eric Staal, Mike Ribeiro, Anze Kopitar than he is to Ovechkin and Crosby. Plenty of room for others to fit in between Malkin and Ovechkin/Crosby going forward.

It's not like Stamkos had a 2 time Art Ross winner on his line 75% of his shifts.

Given Malkin's resume's structure, it doesn't add much.Malkin's resume is build around his prime/peak years and playoffs. He has a number of good but unremarkable seasons, and I fail to see how the half-season in the KHL would change much in the total weight of those unremarkable seasons (because this half-season would undoubtedbly be within that part of his resume, and not in the prime/peak years part).

What´s up with that season from him? Remember thinking "who the heck is this guy?" when looking at the KHL scoring lead during that season, but had forgotten about him until now. Can´t remember having ever seen him play.
He had some steady point getters around him, as Koukal and Milovzorov, and a half season of the Yakupov (18TP in 22GP) who later that season went on to score 31TP in 48GP for the Oilers. But no stars to bring him up to those point levels.
For an player that usually ends up with 1-5 goals (even one goal less season...) to score 10. And to usually have around 10 assists/season and end up with 32. And that top season came at age 29-30. And he´s just had his second best season point wise this season with 21 points. It´s just seems really odd.

He was a fluke in KHL terms but somebody lauded him over decent NHL D's in this period: Hedman, McDonagh, CHara, Markov:sarcasm:
