The fans and city? Maybe. Probably. The management and staff? No. They've ridden a storied franchise into the ground and through several basements. The team is horrendous and top picks have not been helping. They need new ownership and management before they should have the privilege of (mis)shaping another top young talent's future.

They deserve it 100% once Lowe and MacT are gone, and competent management is put in place that actually wants to improve the team. Lowe and MacT have a real hard time admitting they aren't the smartest guys in the room.

Arizona and Florida do not support incompetence, nor have not been blessed with one of the best economies on the planet. Edmonton also has an arena located in prime location.

I'm actually quit informed ;)

Rexall is filled with empty seats, and tickets are dirt cheap on stubhub. Maybe you aren't as informed as you like to think you are? Whatever though right? Those stinky Oiler fans are the problem, not the idiots in charge.

So at the break imo they top teams that are in the running for the top 2 picks are in order:

1. Buffalo

2. Arizona

3. Edmonton

4. New Jersey

5. Ottawa

6. Philly

Columbus and Colorado will play better during the second half of the year

Yes because the fans have suffered through enough. But even if the team does get either of them, it won't change anything until the good players get surrounded with the help they need.

The fans to a certain extent. They've suffered a lot, but a number of them became pretty unbearable on here bragging about Hall, RNH and Yakupov. Most of them have self awareness and probably deserve something to be optimistic about. The organization (namely management and ownership) doesn't deserve it.

Not to mention a lot of people are only holding on to their season tickets and mini-packs so they don't lose their spots when Rogers Place opens.

To answer the thread question, management definitely doesn't. As a fan I'm more excited at the chance of a 30th place finish meaning the end of the idiots in charge and not the opportunity to select a generational talent.

Yup I'm pretty mixed on whether the fans "deserve it" or whether they deserve it more over any other teams' fans. But if there was such a thing as "deserving" than the management/franchise would be last one that list.

No, on the basis that their fan base has made a habit of cheering for their team to lose, prior to the mid-point of the season, every season. This desire of wanting to lose in order to draft 1st overall is beyond pathetic.

Its too bad that the NHL does not relegate the bottom team if they finish bottom 5, 5 years in a row.

The owners/management deserve to be making peanuts being the favorite for a Calder Cup or a middle-contender for the Gagarin.

The fans deserve as much as any fans from any other team in the NHL, which is a decent team to get excited about.

Yep, all those billboards, the newspaper ad, the jerseys thrown on the ice, the team being yelled at in the tunnel, the boos, the fans not showing up or instead selling their tickets online for peanuts = indicative of a fanbase that wants the team to lose.

What a stupid comment. Horse****.

Oilers didn't finish bottom five in 2013, so your point no bearing on them. Just like the rest of your post, very well thought out and researched. Good job.

Excellent post. There comes a point where the league has to stop rewarding failure and as you posted they still receive a high draft pick just out of the top five sounds fair.

I wonder if Edmonton is going to ruin one of them like they did with Drasaitl so far. Can't believe MacT and Eakins actually thought Drasaitl was going to be a 2C this year. Every player should be sent to their junior club unless they come in and impress.

Ignoring the plight of the fans, no. That team has done little to nothing to improve itself outside draft day.
