Do you consider Nylander a "lock" for the NHL now? What's his floor/ceiling?

Reading some of the goofy trade proposals on the other board made me wonder how guys on this board view Nylander. Is he a lock to be at least a Top 6 already, or does he still have the Patrik Stefan potential to bounce back and forth for a few years before flaking out?

I haven't watched much of him so I don't have much of an intelligent opinion, but it seems like he's shaping up to be a poor man's Nicklas Backstrom (which is nothing to hang one's head about, that's a compliment not an insult). Do people on here think he's likely to reach Backstrom levels, or that's too optimistic?

Any time you expect someone to become that good, chances are you are being unrealistic. However, Nylander has shown every sign of beating the odds.

I think it's one of three options:

Bust
Low-end top 6: Consistent 40-55 point player, PP specialist
Top-line Forward: 60-80 point forward, good in all situations

It's hard to gauge whether he'll be a two way force, however, he's young and has potential. I have to say he's the most deceptive player in our system in terms of stealing pucks for the opposition

Productive NHL player for sure. We'll have to wait and see if that's as a top-liner pushing a PPG, or a secondary scoring option(hopefully both if Marner ends up with Matthews and Willy on his own line).

I watched a game in an hour the other day where Willie made a couple of sweet feeds to a couple of guys (I think PA Paranteau was one, cant remember the other) and all I could think of is if he was making that pass to Auston Matthews, that'd be a goal.

I cant wait to see what this kid does in the NHL!

The poster said he would be close to a PPG player and then said he would be a 30-50 player......math is solid. 30 goals 50 assists is 80 points.....that is close to a PPG player.

No. Many of this interpret this as 30-50 points. Close to PPG means under, at, and over 80.

You actually think 30 goals? He is an absolute steal drafting him 8th overall.

Willie is already an elite shot suppressor, and a 1st line point producer. It's hilarious how underrated this guy is. He's as good as Auston Matthews. He might be better.

The best Swede of his generation vs the best American of his generation uuuuusually goes to the Swede.

He was a steal at his draft position. His talent was always exceptional but there were some reservations about his size, two-way game and early struggles for playing time in the SHL.

Willie has improved dramatically since he was drafted and is close to a complete player now. With his shooting arsenal and Matthews feeding him the puck 30 goals is very realistic.

I think he's pretty much a lock for a top 6 role. Can't see him flat out busting after what he's accomplished and shown.

Getting full time NHL work and starting on the 3rd line with someone like Matthews is probably only going to help him transition better. Like Matthews, I think Nylander forces his way up the line up this year and doesn't look back.

It is far from being clear. Most people will understand that as 30 to 50 points.

Not by any that know the season is 82 games long.

Never been a huge fan my self but there is no doubt he will be on the Team and in an increasingly prominent role.

Low: 40-50 point winger
High: 80 point center

The dreamer in me wants a center lineup of
Matthews-90+ points
Nylander-75 points
Kadri-55 points

That would be insane.

Because the 30 50 was predicated by the point per game statement it becomes 30 goals and 50 assists.
If the poster said he will be a 30-50 player then the assumption is 30 to 50 points.

W. Nylander is a top line forward who will score close to a PPG pace in his career.

30-50 guy.

First he stated that he will score close to a PPG pace in his career and stated how he felt it would break down 30-50 and even used guy

Very clear when you read the post.

I disagree with the poster as I see him as a 50 to 60 point type player.

Nylander may be better than Backstrom *this coming season*. Backstrom is not a terribly productive #1C, nor particularly good at shot suppression. Nylander has outperformed Backstrom at the same age from 18 years old on.
