No it basically comes down to how the League wants to be perceived in the NA Pro sports arena. If they want to be a clear 2nd class citizen, then keep doing what their doing. If they want to be treated as a League that belongs with the "big boys" they need to figure out what the **** their doing. Fine consistency and be much more professional ALL the time.

Hell yes they do. And they should be tweeting out gifs of every one of these awful calls from their official account.
No text or commentary, just the gif and one of these  , followed by one of these :dunce:

Is anyone on this board capable of doing gifs on Twitter? If they are and willing to put the BS calls on twitter, let us know and hopefully everyone on this board can retweet them to spread around the incompetence as much as possible.

It has been bad for a while actually. I agree with you. This year, those ****ing coaches challenges are just highlighting their incompetence.

Agreed.

It is one thing to make a mistake on the ice in the heat of the moment, but to make it again after reviewing the play at slow motion in HD?

Come on. That is a joke.

When even the entire opponent team and fans think a goal shouldn't have counted... Yeah thats a joke.

I think the organization owes it to it's players to have a discussion with the league about that play last night.

We can't know what's going on behind the scenes.
Perhaps the Oilers have gone to the NHL. Perhaps the NHL has already issued an apology to them privately.

The real problem is it's getting beyond ridiculous. That may be the worst video review call mistake I've ever seen.

Something stinks.....

Every team needs to call out the refs IMO, whether it is behind closed doors or elsewhere. This is a league wide problem, not just an Oiler problem. I watched three games today and all three games featured awful officiating, and in each game they managed to embarrass themselves and impact the game in completely different ways.

The age old excuses of "these guys have a tough job" and "the game is fast, it's tough to get everything right" have to stop getting trotted out every damn time the stripes blatantly pooch games. This is easily the worst it's ever been, and unless the NHL stops making excuses and does something about it it will only get worse.

My prediction is that the stripes have an awful playoff featuring a slate of brutal calls that cost teams games, topped off by controversial and confusing replay calls. In a twisted way I hope this happens, because the league has proven that they won't take action unless they are forced to.

It's not even the stripes. The guys in Toronto that have all the time in the world to review the incidences can't even get it right. I think the league is punishing us for being so incompetent for so long and lucking into getting McDavid. I hope we **** them right back and get the 1st overall this year too.

Becoming a bit like wrestling. Refs decide the outcome.

Maybe the refs were collectively really upset the league implemented the challenge and saw it as an attack on their professional ability so this is some kind of protest season. I don't know I'm trying to think of a reason it's taken such a sudden nosedive. There's always been bad calls and always will be but the frequency that it's happening at right now is unprecedented.

Im sure other teams are getting some blown calls too. This isnt an Oilers specific thing. However the area the Oilers org should be raging over is the refs treatment of Hall. Can anyone with a straight face say Hall hasnt gotten hosed on atleast 30 calls this season. If you look at penalties drawn/60, Hall isnt even top 100 of NHL. Hall gets about 1 actual call for every 3 missed calls. On top of that hes gotten some pretty shady penalties himself

I really dont know what it is with refs and Hall. I mean I dont find Hall complains more than anyone else (actually less IMO). But yet hes treated as if hes Claude Lemieux out there

I dont think wed be a much better team in standing if we got Halls penalties correct, but damn itd be nice to see. Hall gets hauled down, no call. Hall stick checks someone cleanly- hooking

I want a gif of Kassian roughing penalty anyone know where I can find it?
We should collectively get toget her and make a thread of all the terrible calls and none calls over the year just keep it on our board bUT maybe we could use it to draw attention to the issue. I know it is far fetch but it would be nice also having all these plays in one spot whenever it is needed to make a point in another thread

The NHLOA has proven themselves incompetent at least 10,000 times this season. The NHL has to do something next season. The NHL needs to have a very public fight with the union if the union keeps protecting their members over the health of the league. The public will back the league 100%.

Don't say a damn thing to the refs imo. We can hardly talk to them already, and they have zero repercussions for ****ing us over in any way they choose to do so. Gonna have to take our lumps and deal with it I think.

This is a league-wide problem, us and 29 other NHL teams all need to be sewering the refs at the same time for anything to change.

If you want change it happens through the GM meetings and at the BOG. Saying anything publically can make you feel better but it is not effective. What the Oiler need to do is to lead the charge to eliminate much of the obstruction by taking the position that it is good for the league.

I would love it if someone blasted the refs after an obvious screwup... but IMO it would do more harm than good. We think it's bad now.. I don't want to think about what it'd be like if we had the refs out for a little personal vengeance as well. And this is coming from a guy who believes there is already an anti oiler bias with the officials.

This situation needs to be dealt with behind closed doors at the league level... Chia and other gms finding a way to make overall changes. Spouting off in the media would feel good but would amount to the same as stomping our feet and yelling You Guys SUCK!!!

This is the perfect time to do it though. This season doesn't matter anymore. But put the NHL on notice now so that you don't have to do it next year.

I would love someone to break down referee calls and non-calls in a game. Count the obvious non-calls(like the Krejci crosscheck on Marincin) and then count the marginal penalties or phantom calls. Make a +/- stat for officiating and make it an official NHL statistic. This would really **** the NHLOA off, and put them on notice that their performance is not acceptable.

This, I think it would just make things worse.

If they were called out and it brought attention to it and the refs were even worse....it validates everything: the refs being **** and the league being bush.

It would literally be throwing the ball in their court.

I have no idea what the hell is going on.

The officiating I've seen this year, not just from an Oilers fan perspective but hockey fan perspective is nothing short of embarrassing.

And I don't like "whining", complaining about how the zebras have it out for the Oilers every time.

But this is worse than the stuff I've seen during men's rec basketball.

It diminishes the tiny shred of credibility and integrity the NHL as a professional sports league has left. NHL is a third rate league.

consistently terrible officiating
talk of expansion (potentially LV, lol)
ads on jerseys potentially
player discipline (how arbitrary it seems and how bad it's handled generally)
how downright stupid the GMs are, worst in pro sports
multiple lockouts in a short period
the god awful TV deal in both US and particularly for Canadian viewers

Beside my neighbor..
Goalie interference, should be whistled dead, at the moment of contact...

Taylor got a penalty, after being pushed into a goalie..

The Officiating in the NHL is nowhere near consistent this season....

Iv'e seen Taylor, Conner and Yak get Tackled to the ice...no penalty..

Kass gives a legal body-check...instant penalty...

The NHL has to address it's credibility with it's officiating, or it will become the laughing stock of professional sports..

You can't expect management or the coaching staff to speak out. It's not going to get us anywhere. Kats has to speak out and accept taking a hefty fine for opening his mouth.

The thing is that Katz hates talking about anything.

I agree. I want all of the teams to start calling them out. I see a ridiculously bad or blown call almost every game I watch this season, and that's a lot of non-Oilers too. Babcock has already opened the gates and I hope others follow suit.

Ugh no. Starting witch hunts for refs that make calls you don't like isn't how you solve any problems. The refs aren't there to purposefully screw teams over, and I'm sure when they make bad calls they get punished in some manner.

Refs have a thankless job, be considerate.
