You don’t need an elite #1D. But if you don’t you need a top 4 with minimal weakness.

Yes exactly. You counter the lack of top end elite talent with depth top to bottom. I would also say that most teams even great ones now have a weak point in their roster somewhere....whether that be lack of depth on the wings, down the middle, or on the back end. You will rarely if ever find the "perfect" and most well balanced team. So in my opinion you need to mitigate those weaknesses as much as you can and drive home your strengths. That is the way to win.
