I'm biased but the NHL screwed up by ruling out Vancouver. Yes, there were higher restrictions as to what happened if a player tests positive during play, but it's becoming clear that the #1 priority should be keeping that from happening in the first place. If they come to Vancouver the risk of covid-19 penetrating the bubble is almost zero. It's this careful planning that has kept BC's rates the lowest in North America, and the NHL should embrace it.

Apparently, cost of NBA bubble is estimated at $150M.

Report: Disney bubble will cost NBA more than $150M - Sportsnet.ca

NHL has bigger rosters, but they also focused on costs during negotiations. They also had to scramble as plans changed quickly,so, ultimately, probably a good indicator of costs for the NHL.

Bigger question is if any of the costs are ijco as part of players compensation (meals maybe?), and is included as players share of revenues.

How the NHL plans to create two secure bubbles for the...

Paywall. Teams allowed 51 member traveling party group (plus optional doctor) into secure bubble. Family can join for conference finals and Stanley Cup final.

The traveling party must include at least the following personnel: A roster of no more than 31 players, three coaches, two athletic trainers, one team physician (if available), one equipment manager, one massage therapist, one team psychiatrist/chiropractor, one content/social media creator, one security official and one representative to serve as the compliance officer.

42 members defined in that group of 51 (plus optional doctor).

Players have three days after ratification to opt out of playing.

Sounds like a lot of cost savings for organizations to keep folks at home

"You get just as much access from your home office that you get from actually being in the hub city"... except for the part about actually being able to go to the games.

This probably pisses off a lot of media folks, but they cannot expect the NHL to maintain a bubble which includes non-NHL people being in direct contact with the players.

Interesting that league doctors can deem player unfit to play if undelying disease could make player more susceptible to COVID-19 infections.
