Yeah, I don't mind it Lind back here next season. I just don't trust his great season being sustainable, but he's in the prime of his career so maybe this will be repetable.

I think limiting his time at 1B, and at-bats against lefties, will help sustain his level of production. He was really good against right handers this year (like top fifteen hitter in all of baseball good). The trick is keeping his back healthy.

It would be nice if they platooned him with a right handed hitter. If Jeff Baker is recovered from his hernia, he'd fit the bill.

Would have been nice to have him as a backup to Reyes if he gets injured, but I guess that's what Izturis is here for.

we should be hearing some news in lind derosa and janssen soon. lots of teams have already announced team options ir lack there of

I read an article that said AA waits to the last minute to pick up options just in case a player picks up some kind of freak injury before hand

That and if the Jays bring in a new 2b they have Goins they can use off the bench as well if they wanted to.

I don't care what people say, that Red Sox team was a .500 team at best coming into this season. But they had that special desire to win, they had players that wanted to win a heck of a lot more than our Jays. You can't win on talent alone. I don't care about making any big splashes this time around. We need a Victorino or a Gomes. I have had enough of being knocked around.

Grinders like Gomes will become an afterthought as soon as next year's postseason begins. Every year a team rolls around that thinks they've discovered the secret formula.

Arizona Fall League:

Pitchers:
Last two starts for Aaron Sanchez: 8.1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 4 BB, 8 SO.
Hutchison so far in the AFL: 15.2 IP, 7 H, 1 ER (HR), 2 BB, 14 SO.
Marcus Stroman thus far: 7.2 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 6 SO. (Max effort in the pen, no starts as of now)

Catchers:
Derrick Chung (was in Dunedin this past year) so far in the AFL: .429/.500/.500/.100, 28 AB, 3 R, 12 H, 2 2B, 1 RBI, 3 BB, 6 SO.

Infielders:
Andy Burns: .326/.389/.413/.802, 46 AB, 8 R, 15 H, 4 2B, 11 RBI, 6 BB, 7 SO, 5 SB (1 CS).

Outfielders:
Kenny Wilson: .254/.333/.305/.638, 59 AB, 6 R, 15 H, 3 2B, 4 RBI, 6 BB, 17 SO, 9 SB (4 CS). After an incredibly hot start (albeit through a mere 18 ABs), Kenny Wilson has gone super cold. Like .371 OPS in his last 41 ABs cold. Otherwise, the Jays prospects currently in the AFL have been relatively solid.

Winter League:

Pitchers:
Joel Carreno: 4 IP, 4 H, 1 R (0 ER), 0 BB, 4 SO.
Sean Nolin: 7.1 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 1 HR, 3 BB, 7 SO.
Ramon Ortiz (not a prospect but he's back to pitching): 20.2 IP, 15 H, 5 ER, 4 HR, 7 BB, 13 SO.

Outfielders:
Moises Sierra: .306/.405/.583/.988, 36 AB, 7 R, 11 H, 1 2B, 3 HR, 9 RBI, 5 BB, 8 SO, 1 SB (2 CS).

You also have the Brummetts and Becks and Nanitas of the world competing in winter leagues but I won't follow their progression (or Ortiz's for that matter)

He was listed as (TOR) so I assume he's still somehow affiliated with us, but no I don't think there's any contractual agreement there. I wouldn't hate to see him in Buffalo just because I feel he could be a good influence on younger guys like Carreno.

Why just let kawasaki go? I thought he was serviceable and great in the club room.

I'm sure their trying to conserve spots on the 40 man roster. He'll likely be offered a deal to come back

I'm not a big fan of the Jays but from what I saw they need a catcher, bad. The one guy could continue to catch for Dickey but they need a guy much better than Arencibia to call games. Its not like his bat is all that good to begin with.

Thole is fine as the #2C , Dickey did good with him.

Arencebia, man. I hope AA gets somebody else, and more of strong defensive guy who can bat 8th.
We have enough power

If AA is serious about competing then he absolutely has to replace Arencebia, otherwise why bother.

Can anyone shed some insight on why the option was picked up on Adam Lind?

I understand that he had some pretty decent numbers last year, but to me, he's just another slugger (relative terms) on a team full of them.

Well, he'll only cost $7 million in 2014. The production he provided in 2013 makes him well worth the price tag. Relatively speaking, if AA was to look outside the organization to replace him with another DH\1B, he would most likely end up paying more or downgrading significantly. He also has options in 2015 and 2016, with the buyouts declining in each year ($1 million in 2015, and 500k in 2016), making it low risk.

It essentially just removes another position from having to be upgraded. The front office already has to address 2B and C, and of course the starting rotation.
