Jack and Bratt leading the NHL in points. First time in history the Devils have had the #1 and #2 highest scoring players?

Boy, times change...

(Yes, I'm aware it's the beginning of the season. It's still cool to see.)

I think it's first time they've had a league leading scorer at all? But someone correct me on that if that's wrong.

When it comes to the defense my biggest concern is the PK defense. The 5v5 D isn't great but it's nowhere near as bad as some make it out to be. Really makes no sense why the PK looks so much worse and more passive than it did last year

The PK took off last year on the strength (and luck?) of the Marino/Graves pair. We haven’t had a defensive pair gel the same the way.

The best PK pairings so fair have been anyone with Brendan Smith.

Vegas won the Cup last year after having a 19th ranked PK and 11th in GA.

I think we might be getting a little carried away here after like 2 weeks/ 9 games.
Ummm we are currently ranked way lower than that in GA....

But yes there's still a lot of season to go. I think nine games is enough to be concerned, but not enough to be convinced it's a real long-term problem yet.

Super small sample size indeed, but the goaltending worries me more than the team defence. Minny should've never scored 3 tonight, and it seems our goalies can't give up 2 or less. I'm hopeful they'll figure it out though. I also expect defence to tighten up. Our 5v5 xGA is also 4th in the league.

I mean 21-22 it was really good too (goalies just sucked). I know there's been some roster turnover and that was Nas but I don't think all of their success last year is because of Graves-Marino. Siegs was really f***ing good on the PK that year

PP is obviously going to dip because the current rate is unsustainabley insane, but the success so far is not an accident for fluke.

See no reason why it won't be a top PP in the league the entire year unless we have major injury issues.
I agree...we all thought these guys had enough skill to be really good on the PP...to me it looks like they've finally figured it out. That plus the additions of Luke and Toffoli have provided additional weapons and skill.

It's not just the opposing goalies playing like shit...they are zipping the puck around and getting outstanding chances on almost every PP opportunity. No reason it can't stay tops in the league.

The save percentage is .885.

Even the one they didn't score on they had a near sure goal that Timo forked wide.

The puck movement from the top unit is a legit thing of beauty. It's insane.

Is it time to start giving Travis Green credit yet?

Doubt we'll ever know but I find it hard to believe these guys suddenly learned how to be creative on the pp. It really looked to me the previous pps they were just doing what the coaches told them to and stuck to the script (it looked really forced). Basically, what I'm saying is, it looks more like Green is just giving them options to execute as they see fit rather than sticking to one (awful) tactic.

Also, Luke Hughes. He's a really big reason for the pp success.

Yeah, I just watched the third goal again and I’m nailing Vitek for a stoppable goal on it, but even I don’t think it was that bad.

I think it may have been somewhat fluky and unlucky with it going off his stick and in. Looked like he tried to push it out but he only pushed it under him and in.

I didn’t think he did anything wrong on the first two goals and looked good early on. I thought he was shaky in the 3rd and there was even a point where he thought he got scored on when it was still 3-2. It seemed like everyone also noticed that. And he also just barely stopped the next one after the goal that made it 4-3. He played a bit like he was rattled at points when the score was creeping closer.

Yeah, I’d say he should get a stoppable goal for the third, but I didn’t think it was softy of the night material or even as bad as some of his others he’s allowed this year, like a couple in the Buffalo game.
On that almost goal, In think if it squeaked through, Luke may have been in position to swat it out. That would have been something considering the game he had.

LOL you just can't help yourself.

Maybe Nashville can really tank this year and make Saros available. But I'd have no faith that a goalie coming to a new team in the middle of a season would be successful, no matter who it is.

It's just very obvious that the Devils' goaltending is simply not getting it done. No team had an .885 SV% on full net goals last year.

I don't think either guy is this bad. Bad stretches happen. They're much more visible when they happen at the beginning of the season.

And Toffoli along with Timo getting a full camp.

Not to discredit Green, but there have been enough additions to improve the PP all on its own.
