I could build a brick wall. Put it in net and this team would still somehow find a way to get scored on back door.

How are some people not more concerned about this?

even him being on this team while doing nothing is demoralizing. if you work in an office and the guy who is expecting to pull their weight and doesnt. then you'd want him to shap up. when you find out he makes 3-10x as much as you. it crushes your spirit.

Cory sucks, but come on he's not why we're getting killed tonight. A lack of effort and structure is. I don't care what goalie is in net, 4 of those goals are probably going in.

It also sends the message that effort isn't the problem, since there are guys who have been much worse than he was even last game.

Wakeup call my ***

**** it, bench Andy at this point. They need to go nuclear one way or another.

some people are definitely defending a goalie who hasnt made many big saves and has allowed a ton of softies since december of last year.

he is a huge part of the problem, even with how the team is playing in front of him

if he was playing like a vezina 6 million goalie then maybe this team could garner some confidence from that.

why is how much money he makes a factor right now?

We're acting as if he is the highest paid in the league. There are like 9 or 10 goalies that make $6 or more IIRC

This is an over the deep end level take.

i can be concerned about both things at once. cory situation is not getting any better and there is little end in sight.

im at least confidence this team will play at an nhl level at some point.

Who's defending him? Show me.

And it is nearly impossible to play like a Vezina-caliber goaltender with the way everyone else is playing. Everyone--goalies included--has been trash.

No one is better with how we are playing. A literal brick wall would get lit up with this play in front.

I don’t know how much Cory might have left or not, but I can’t rightfully judge him with how we are playing.

Same for Keith. He has been getting blown out too, but I don’t for a second blame him for it. It’s a joke how this team is playing.

I disagree 1000%. There's too much Sample-Size(buzzword there) that shows that Cory is DONE.

He never was the same since the groin injury and doesn't look like he'll be the same even when healthy.

Yes, the team played like garbage in front of him but there comes a point where you have to have your Goaltender at least TRY to keep the team in the game while they're sleepwalking....He's not even doing that.

Kinky, more often than not, does do this.

Pointing out the piss-poor play of the guys in front of him as a concurrent cause of our downward spiral isn't "defending Schneider."

Some (most?) people around here have a real hard time grasping the concept of mutual exclusivity, and when it does and doesn't apply.

Except the people doing this are the ones that have been Schneider apologist the past 2 seasons.

Nobody's 'defending' Cory, that's just silly. But we've seen the exact same games from Keith the last two weeks, the problem goes WAY beyond goaltending at this point. Until that gets fixed you might as well have Scott Darling or Scott Clemmensen in net for all the good it'll do.

I’m starting to worry that hall might go elsewhere when he’s a ufa

Why wouldn't he go elsewhere. He see the cheapness of this club to get players to shorten the rebuild. At the rate of the Devils failure to improve this team the rebuild will take another 5 years. Why would he hang around? He can get as much money elsewhere and have a shot for the playoffs.

When we start playing better we can discuss improving the goaltending.

We need to play better then a peewee team first.

**** that, let some of these players step up too. They're all getting paid to perform, some of them just as handsomely as Cory. Who's actually pulling their weight other than maybe Coleman and Zajac?

would rather that because combined they'll make 3 million.

people may not be defending him (which i think some are ultra sensitive to his critics) but they are also blind to how huge a problem a 6 million AHL goalie with 3 years left is going to be.

Disagree. Our forwards have turned the puck over in the neutral zone a ton tonight.

Actually you're both right. It seems like we have a 100 turnovers at either blue line, and the outlet passing from the defense has been horrendous. Long, cross-ice stretch passes against a big fast team spells trouble, but the turnovers from the forwards at either blueline have really put the D back on their heels.

We're not good.

You don't "shorten rebuilds" by splurging in free agency on overpaid veterans, you ruin your franchise doing that. Paying players who are on the downside of their prime big money for what they have done in the past is terrible asset management, and cap space is one of the most valuable assets.

The NHL isn't an office job.

I don't know why people draw these analogies to "office work." It's really quite stupid.

As fallacious as it gets.

Why are people talking about forward production when this team actually averages 3 goals a game and is losing because they are averaging like 5GA on a night basis?

This “fast attacking supportive” bullshit is structure-less drivel. It has been since day one. Couple that with an average d core and at least one goalie whose career is basically over and now we have the chickens coming home to roost.

Get this coaching staff the f*** out of here. They’ve been bush league from the start and haven’t improved one iota. I don’t even care if it does or doesn’t improve our record for the remainder of the year. Send the message, get some goddamn structure back, and look to the future. Because this sorry ass staff sure as shit is not leading this team to any championship, regardless of talent level.
