I do think Scarlett deserves a look at some point. I think he has the potential to be pretty good too.

He seems to be ready defensively, just needs to put some weight on and work on his O. I wouldn't mind him moving up to 3rd pair or Harrolds spot when Sal inevitably gets injured.

Don't know if anyone read Chere's story from yesterday. Lou talked about getting close to a deal with Cory (he spent a lot of time yesterday talking to multiple people about that seems)

But also mentioned he wasn't done with signings. He mentioned signings and trades and said he is working on one or two more trades.

Mentioned it earlier, Said he they would like to 1 or 2 more things in regards to adding players, Would guess josefson is on his way out?

I thought it was the exact opposite, but it seems like you're right

From what I read, and especially hockeysfuture's opinion on him, he seems like that Paul Martin/Andy Greene type player. The smaller, more mobile guys who are just smart players in the defensive zone.

I remember really likely that pick in the sixth round, same with the last Woods and Dudek. At that point, you either go for a project pick or you're stuck with a safe pick like a fourth line bruiser. I'd take the project guy every day.

The thing that I like about Scarlett is that he played a LOT of minutes in juniors. Like, he was getting 26-29 minutes a night as a 17 year old if I remember correctly.

Workhorse players that can absorb huge minutes and not have their game suffer are very hard to find. It's a skill in itself. Even if his offense doesn't translate I'm sure he can find SOME role at the NHL level.

Current: Merrill, Gelinas, Larsson, Severson, Santini, Jacobs
Prime: Larsson, Merrill, Santini, Severson, Gelinas, Jacobs

I think Larsson still has the most potential of any defenseman, there's a reason he was touted so highly. I think he's going to have a Hedman-esque breakout season. If he doesn't work out as a #1 I think Merrill is pretty easily the top dman.

Larsson's demotion last year made no sense to me until recently.
He had a rough start, then when asked to play with Gelinas and assume a role that required tremendous positioning and smarts to cover for him, he excelled. 5-5, He and Greene were the best two dmen. An injury and he's sent north for the season.
I think Larsson was expected to join Greene as the top pairing, but this meant mistakes couldnt happen, hence early benchings.

Fayne proves effective with Greene and Merrill emerges well before expected. At this point, Larsson can help the team. But it's decided that for futures sake, that Merrill and Gelinas gain NHL time and Larsson take on a leading role in Albany where he is expected to contribute ala Andy Greene for us (he has had a lack of roles in development like this). He comes back, looks solid and is penciled in with Greene for this year.

The talent is there, we have a dynamite top pairing next

Seems like you twisted Lou's words a little. Unless I'm reading the wrong quote then I apologize.

As far as other potential moves, Lamoriello said that could be signings or a trade.

“It’s a possibility,†he said. ““We certainly would like to do one or two more things. Nothing has happened, but we are looking into a couple of things.â€

I think he is getting rid of forwards for prospects/picks. I can't imagine him going for a big name at the moment.

I am confident in saying that out of all of our defenseman Merrill and Severson will be the best with Larsson being a close 2nd. Merrill only dropped because of his off ice issues but wouldve been a first rounder as we all know. Merrill to me has extremely high upside with top pairing written all over him.

The only things I can see Lou doing at this point is moving one or two of Ryder, Ruutu, Zubrus or Brunner with Zubrus and Ryder being the more likely. I think in the right situation Brunner can still be good and Ruutu has a purpose as hes basically a younger Zubrus. Ryder can thrive too if he has someone who can get him the puck in the offensive zone. He cannot carry the puck himself though which was painfully obvious as all he did last year was skate it to the red line and dump it in. Zubrus to me has the least potential other than being strictly a PKer.

I'm not sure if this has been brought up already, but the Devils updated the roster on their website. Here is what they have:

Bernier
Brunner
Cammalleri
Clowe
Elias
Gionta
Havlat
Henrique
Jagr
Josefson
Ruutu
Ryder
Zajac
Zubrus

Greene
Harold
Salvador
Zidlicky

Schneider

Looks like 3 more D and backup Goalie for a total of 23.
