im on board for signing gomez, i think. the guy showed some good stuff during the preseason. and he can also bring some ability to wheel up ice and keep defenders a bit more honest. PP can always use his zone entry skills too, considering they really struggled with that last night. kinda liked him on the point during the preseason too, as he still has nice vision and can see everything from up high. just get clowe off the PP.

Very blah on Gomer. Adding more old guys to the mix is not the solution I'm looking for.

As I said in the GDT last night, its time to make a move with the forward corps. We need to package one of our DMen + one of our forwards + a pick (if need be) for a good young winger.

Wonder if part of the plan is to continue to play these guys and thus get their value up.

But yeah, I've been on the "trade a young d-man for a young fwd" for some time now.

Cory has been great the past few weeks outside of the Pittburgh game.
Have to agree with you here. He has been the brightest spot on the team the past few games. I am really getting the feel that sitting Clowe/Sal/Zid (pick one) for one game would not be a bad idea. PDB could also bench mister tries-to-dangle-a-lot for the turnovers once in a while, maybe he would learn to pass the puck every now and then.

On a side note, Ryan Carter has more points than Travis Zajac. Yeah.

how do you coach a butterfly goalie of his experience? I thought it was pretty standard stuff.

1- look for incoming shot
2- line up
3- drop down
4- make save

His biggest area of weakness has nothing to do with butterfly style: playing the puck outside the crease.

Did Jacques Caron(sp?) help teach Marty how to play the puck? I'm curious....because if he did, the Devils should get in touch with him to come in and help Cory out with that aspect.

Goalie, fourth line and defense played well last night. Henrique, Elias and Ryder created a lot of chances in the first two periods.

Jagr / Zajac had awful games. The amount of turnovers at the blueline from those two was ridiculous.

Jagr has to realize that the opposition has adjusted their gameplan by running an active forward at him after he brakes and curls in the offensive zone. The puck needs to leave his stick earlier. With that said, his linemates need to move better in order to give an option.

Tundra,

Have you become as tired as I have in watching Jagr dangle with the puck and then eventually losing it to the opposition in the offensive zone? :shakehead

I mean it's almost like he's trying to do everything himself instead of just getting the puck to another teammate as soon as possible for a scoring opportunity.

I also noticed that they stopped using the play that worked well for them I preseason where they skate the puck up to the blue line and then drop it to a trailing player coming up with speed to hopefully catch the D flat footed when they step up to meet he rusher on the blueline. You can't do it on every rush but right now, we're too predictable and mixing this n might help.

There are a lot of forwards right now that are not producing which is why I thought it odd we bring up Bernier who had what? 1 goal in 45 games last year and send down Boucher after only 2 games and limited minutes.

The defense force Jagr to brake & turn back and the onrushing forward collapses down on him, dislodging the puck. It happens 3 to 4 times per game.

I think it takes at least another 15-20 games before other teams consider moving anyone.

It just seems to be more pronounced lately, though.

And I believe last night, it happened more than just 3 to 4 times.

Jagr probably had the puck for just a few seconds before he was stripped of it and this happened very often(in particular, in the offensive zone).

I suppose we can chalk that up to the Blues being so good defensively but still I think he dangles too much.

Aside from Henrique, the entire top 6 needs to be revamped. That's basically the main thing holding this team back from playoff contention. The lower lines are reasonably fine.

I just think Lou would have to overpay at this point in the season. Look at what we gave for Kovalchuk, would have been a lot more had Lou tried to get him in November 2009. If he aggressively pursues a trade right now he's giving another team the upper-hand. If there was another team with young scorers who really wanted a young Dman, they'd have probably reached out to him first

its the 2015 draft. some teams dont want to get better.

It's pretty rare since team GM's are trying to figure where their team is at early this season. A first round pick would need to be dangled by the Devils to get something going right now. I remember the Isles really over paying to get Vanek early on last year. I think its best to stay patient. Devils can do fine if they can get healthy.

Here we go again. So you're saying Zajac isn't even a top 6 player? Or Cammalleri? I know the rest tends to be debatable, but really? Seriously? Not even Jagr or Elias? I'm at a loss here.

Zajac isn't a top 6 player and probably hasn't been one since the 2011 playoffs. Camalleri is but he doesn't fit into the future with injury concerns and salary. Elias and Jagr are reaching the end.

It's called lack of speed versus speed.

Devils forwards have no speed on the counteract, forcing Jagr to either hopelessly dump it in, or pull up and wait and try to maintain possession of the puck. He tries to do the latter and the speed of other teams (all of which are far superior to ours) catch up easily.
