DEVILS (14-3-0) at SENATORS (6-9-1)

Head-to-Head:

This is the second of three meetings between the Senators and Devils but is the first and only stop in Canada this season. The third meeting is at Prudential Center on Mar. 25, 2023.

In the first meeting on Nov. 10, the Devils beat the Senators 4-3 in overtime. Nico Hischier had two goals, including the game winner. Tomas Tatar and Miles Wood also scored in the win. Vitek Vanecek was pulled from the game in the third period after he was hit earlier in the contest. Akira Schmid finished out the third period and played overtime, stopping all seven shots he faced.

Devils Team Scope:
The Devils are having fun and winning hockey games. New Jersey has won 11 straight including the two earlier stops on this Eastern Canada roadtrip. The team is finding success in all areas of their game. Goaltending has been consistently strong with Vitek Vanecek taking the majority of the workload. The Devils have four lines that can produce no matter who they're facing. New Jersey's defensive core has improved from last year and to top it all off, the Devils are one of the quickest teams in the NHL.

Devils Captain Nico Hischier leads his team in goals with nine while Jesper Bratt leads with 15 assists and 22 overall points. Jack Hughes and Bratt are tied for second with seven goals. Hughes' 12 assists brings him to 19 points, which is second only to Bratt.

New Jersey's starting goaltender Vitek Vanecek has won his last eight consecutive "decisions" which makes him the third goaltender in Devils history to achieve that feat. Vanecek has a 2.15 GAA and .916 save percentage through his 11 games played and nine starts. Akira Schmid has picked up two wins and is averaging 1.63 goals against and has a .920 save percentage.

Senators Team Scope:
After going on a seven game losing skid, the Senators have picked up two wins in their last three games. In Ottawa's most recent win, the Senators had some penalty trouble, giving their opponent eight power play opportunities throughout the contest. However, their penalty kill came up big only allowing in one goal. The Senators are gaining some momentum their way and are finding ways to win contests after going so long without a victory.

Claude Giroux and Shane Pinto both lead the team with eight goals while Captain Brady Tkachuk's 14 assists and 21 points lead in both those categories. Starting goaltender Anton Forsberg has a 3.35 GAA and .904 save percentage through 11 starts.

By the Numbers:
Forward Dawson Mercer's next game is his 100th NHL game and he will be the fifth player in franchise history to play his first 100 games consecutively.

Nico Hischier enters Saturday with 11 points over the last nine games and he has a +11 rating since Oct. 30.

Injuries:

Devils

Blackwood (IR, MCL sprain)
Palat (IR, groin)
Bernier (IR, hip)

Senators
Norris (IR, shoulder)
Chabot (IR, concussion)
