I wonder if someone told Andy to deke or if he came up with that on his own?

Good call

I remember those shootouts against the wall of pads goalies where we'd shoot on them and not score, then go deking on the regular sized goalies.:shakehead

They really didn't deserve one point, let alone 2. I'm happy with the points, but they really can't continue to play like that.

I have to say, and this is a compliment.... that Hall is very much like Kovy in this particular aspect, now that I've gotten to see enough games of Hall regularly.

The guy reminds me of #17 in the sense that Hall WANTS the puck a lot, and he commands it, and is actually given the same respect by defenders...because the amount of space he'll create by backing up defenders is eerily similar. And he has very similar speed. Worse balance, but the speed is there. But either way, Hall is all over the puck and he really wants to drive the play around him.

The rest of the style is very different once Hall gets into the Ozone, since he's not looking to really shoot, but be more of a wizard with the puck. He reminds me of someone more of the elite grinder with very good passing skills mode once he is in the zone.

But the way he flies up the ice and around the behind of the net reminds me of the way #17 did a few years ago.

The New Jersey Devils are undefeated when Andy Greene scored a penalty shot.

He had a nice goal like that against the Pens in the lockout season.

I'm not sure if it was an actual breakaway, I don't think it was. It may have been a partial one. It was definitely a shorthanded goal too.

Can we just take a moment and realize our D is way better than we thought it would be going into the year? It's not just Schneider, we're playing well in our own zone with Kinkaid in net as well. We have the 3rd fewest goals against in the league.

We outshot them 43 to 26. If we didn't deserve a point, did they?

I mean I'm not the biggest advocate of shots on goal but they dominated the third period and OT. I don't get the didn't deserve to win just because the PP was crap, they did out play the Sabres.

i don't know about that... they were sloppy through the first half but played pretty well at end of 2nd and a really good third and had 43 shots on goal i mean... i have seen a lot worse than that to say they didn't deserve even a point...

Yes, very much surprised by this. Severson went to prime form, and Quincy isn't as bad as some of the bottom guys we had before, despite the noise around him. LJ is good filler too.

Kinkaid is looking a lot better than what he showed us last season too, so that helps. Last year he was giving up some real softies.

yeah i agree and as much as lovejoy and quincy are the whipping boys for now they have a little snarl that has been missing here in a few years.. and severson has been very good.. as has john moore

I'm not sure if the D is better or if the forwards being much stronger are covering up for the D.

Guys like Hall and Bennett do a spectacular job at driving possession 5-on-5. Last year, Josefson and Kennedy were some of our best forwards at moving the puck out of the zone.

The third was definitely better, though it was hard to tell with my stream conking out every 2 minutes. But I guess I'm just furious over those PP attempts. They were so utterly pathetic that they should pay the fans for mental damage done after witnessing them.

We can definitely use an upgrade transition wise on the back end, but people were telling us we had the worst D in the league going into the season. Even The Hockey News claimed that. Clearly that narrative was as out to lunch as can be.

So all that said......

....did we win? :sarcasm:

Let's see tomorrow if the Devils can get more than just one in regulation against Pads McGee(or is that some other goaltender that Bleed refers to?).

If Jack Cappuano had lucked into coaching a team who had 2 of the top 6 or 7 players in the game and won a cup he would be Dan Bylsma. We are just borderline unwatchable, and instead of ugly wins we compile Gary Bettman Loser Points. I want a progressive forward thinking coach, not this dreck.

Taylor Hall is so good. He's a bit snakebit right now though. He's getting great chances every game they just aren't finding the net.

Having forwards who pose a threat to the other team especially with speed generally helps to ease up the pressure on our defenders.

If you look at the defenders Pittsburgh won the cup with, they weren't a spectacular group, but Pittsburgh's speed at forward covered up for a lot of that.

Happy we got the two points and that Auvitu got his first goal. Surprised that Andy managed to score on a penalty shot. Not impressed with the subpar PP. Hoping for another win and two more points when I got to the Rock tomorrow.

It's definitely a much different team than last season. Much better possession and more shots to the net. Hall is the big reason but Severson, Aavitu, and Moore being given the green light to jump in is big as well. Much more offensive zone pressure this season which is a breath of fresh air.

Taylor Hall is SO good. He creates something almost every time he is on the ice. Early returns on the trade are two thumbs up.

Zacha is obviously still learning the game. He is playing way too tentative in the neutral zone and offensive zone. He has the potential to be a true force in this league but needs to exert himself more and use his frame. His play away from the puck though has been fantastic.

As someone said earlier, the D is playing well. There are some glaring deficiencies but they do enough to get the job done. Severson has been the obvious bright spot but Aavitu has shown flashes of being a good offensive option on the 3rd pair.

7-3-3 with little to nothing from Cammalleri, Henrique, and Palmieri. Let's keep the little roll going. I was hoping for 3-1 in the double back-to-backs with Carolina and Buffalo. The potential is there for 4-0 now.
