I mean you'd think Jack, Bratt, Dougie and Toffoli alone would be better but I'm not sure how many more people I can trust offensively right now. Nico's goalscoring has dried up since late last year and he's coming off seemingly major injury, Timo - maybe we're due for a good streak? I'm still waiting to see it here. Mercer's been dogshit awful all year, same with Palat.

Here in lies the answer. These players are too good to let this continue for the next 60 games.

Nico had a 25 gm stretch last season with a 100pt pace. There are ebbs and flows in every season, that goes for the team and players. I have faith in the group. My two concerns are goaltending and honestly Mercer, he just looks absolutely lost. Id staple his ass to Bratt and Nico for the next stretch

Igor has the worst numbers on their goaltending roster by a landslide this season and Chytyl is a third liner. You are comparing apples to oranges. If the Rags goalies were not performing better then Igor then I would agree with you that they are finding ways to win

And idc, we are constructed differently. This Devils team isn’t built to withstand injuries to our centers because they drive everything and play a key role in the D system. The Rags work off their wingers to drive play (btw, they are starting to trend down in their control of play lately, that 1-3-1 can only go so far)

I think that poster may be a Devils fan, but the extent of their posts on this board seems to be “Don’t blame the goalies bruh or ur just not watching”, though I do see some posts on other team forums when going through their recent post history. They’ve also been a member for a very long time, but I don’t have many memories ir recollection of this poster, unless they’ve had a recent name change, which is entirely possible.

Ruff seems very stubborn himself with the system. It worked last year, but if our personnel (which is talented but has a lot of new pieces) can't work the system, just tweak it.

Tonight’s goalie has been dog shit since last February and has been badly outplayed by the other goalie (albeit in half the games played, but several more playoff games than him) in that same time period.

Defending the goaltending is the beta move. Vanecek is done here after the plane wreck that was last playoffs. He can’t be redeemed here.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Blackwood had better numbers from February on than Vanecek through the end of the playoffs, even with the disaster that was his final game as a Devil that lost him his job of even dressing to Schmid. I’m actually too scared to go look that up right now. I don’t even wanna know.

Blackwood’s disaster of a final game here was basically every. Single. Playoff. Game. Vitek. Played. Even the game he won.

Vitek was rattled and bothered enough from his rough playoffs that he saw a sports psychologist over the summer.

They weren’t even this enamored with him last year when he was on a 3 game winning streak (with a 1-0 shutout over Colorado in there) and they interrupted that to start Blackwood two games in a row. The first start because he “Played well historically against Vancouver”?

We didn’t even play the goalie that’s played so historically well against the Rangers when they’ve put him out there, so don’t gimme that bullshit.

I know, I know. This loss wasn’t because of the goalie.

Still, he was asking for trouble with this start and there was crazy foreshadowing as soon as it became confirmed he was getting the start.
