The point is almost every game he was in has been a 4 goal game with most goals being softies
I've counted 23 stoppable this year and he's allowed 56 total. Only 53 as a Devil, but I specifically remember not tagging him for any of the 3 goals he allowed in the one game as a Blue that he played this year. I remember arguing it when Blackwood was getting tossed out there every game and Gillies literally played 2 games here in the first 4 weeks or so that we had him.
And I also specifically remember that I didn't count any of the 3 goals he allowed against the Penguins or Islanders as stoppable and those were his first 2 starts here.
So since his first 9 goals against on the season, I've counted 23 of 47 goals stoppable? OUCH!
I just don't see that after this sizeable a number of games played. It's truly possibly a first.
I have ALL of my findings from 18-19 up through last night tracked, but I did botch the playoffs from 2020 a bit, due to shitty record keeping and editing.
But nothing is really organized, so I'd be interested to see how many guys sustained this high of a percentage after THAT many games. I did have Eric Comrie (who's still played a handful fewer games than Gillies this year) for about 50% of his goals against being stoppable this year, so it happens in very limited sample sizes. In fact, I have 100% of Garret Sparks 3 goals allowed this year as stoppable. But again, that's only 3 goals and he only played 2 games and 97 minutes in total.
Last year I deemed 32 of Matt Murray's 79 goals against as stoppable, which was 40.5%. And his teammate Marcus Hogberg (who has since f***ed off to Europe to play) I got for 20 goals stoppable out of the 40 he allowed for exactly 50%.
Gillies has now passed him in minutes played this year by about 260-ish or so? Maybe a little more? I don't feel like looking again.
Koskinen has flirted with 40% in some of his years, but is usually at about 38% and that's very high.
Gillies is really up there.
