Greene and Lovejoy are abominations, but don’t think for a second that Cory being in net is not a major factor in how the defense plays. These guys are absolutely petrified that every shot that makes it to Cory is gonna be a goal. Hence why both of those old declining d-men flailed around like panicked cattle to try to keep the puck away from Cory.

You do have a valid point. In my games when I've come back from injury and was struggling, the defense always tried to do that 1 extra play and get a stick or glove on anything headed to me in net. It did cost in a few own goals. After I got out of that stretch to normal they didnt do that and made it a point to not touch anything within 5 feet of my crease.

I’m not asking for people to forgive and praise him. I’m just hoping that maybe for one night... just one night... we don’t have to be incessantly reminded how much money he makes, how much money the average person makes, and how many wins he’s had since 2017? Please?

two solutions:

win a game.

don't start a game.

2 bad goals - big deal. Devils scored 5. They easily won if not for incredibly horrid D.
The games where bad goaltending costs you are the close losses, losses like this and the Detroit game in his first start of the season, which also featured 2 bad goals and we lost by 1 goal. The blowout games? Not as big of a deal.

Of course, he had no chance on those 3rd period goals, but the poor early goals left no margin for error late in the game for those weird and unlucky goals.

The other goalie on the team (who isn't that great) has outplayed him for over 2 years now. Behind the same horrid D.

Why wont hynes play BC in OT?

Because he is stupid. I mean. I don't want to be mean to the guy, but there is no other word for it. 0-6 in OT/SO, and he won't change a single damn thing. Just keeps running the same 5 players into the ground. And we wonder why Vats and Hall look so useless in OT. Because they are freaking dead.

As usual, your almost perverse, "blame everything on Cory" bias is showing:

Goal 1 chance is created because Severson thinks he's Wayne Gretzky and because Noesen played defense covering for Severson poorly. Could Cory stop it? Maybe. But I'd hardly call that "on Cory".

Goal 3 is entirely because Severson played 0 defense and allows a man backdoor 1 v 0 on his side of the ice. Little chance for Cory.

You do the same thing with Severson you accuse him of doing with Cory though.

ya I think the only forwards he gives shifts to is Hall, Hischier, Zajac, Zacha, Bratt, Johansson. Palmieri was in that group too but I guess the last couple OT games didn't really look too great for him so he took him out.

At least he got Bratt out now..

Tonight it looked like they didn't want to give any puck away and were looking for breakaway passes in OT. That's why I think they sat behind the net to wait for a favorable breakout pass while Ducks were changing or mis-marking their 3 on 3.

I don't get why they didn't want to keep the pressure up top, instead of in their own zone. They also backed out of the ozone a little more than necessary, and wasted a lot of clock time. Possession is fine, but you gotta at least press it forward more!!

No, there's a lot of short memory when it comes to invoking the Johnny Mac era. EVERY SINGLE game they were getting wasted by the end, they weren't even competitive. The only time this got close was the six-game road trip but they've been competitive at home for the most part. This is more of a combo of 2013-14, maybe closer to 2013 cause the team really wasn't that good. Cory = Hedberg from that year. 2014 you could argue was a legit playoff team that was undermined by the shootout. I don't think we're going to wind up missing the playoffs by the OT points we're losing this year, but it's close atm.
if the games were 53min long instead of 60min they probably would be in the playoffs or close to it, could never say that about Jmac's team. that was lethargic -- this team just scored 11 goals in the past two games that would be a dream for the 10-11 devils

They are deathly afraid to turn it over and allow a chance the other way because they have 0 confidence in their goalie. Not pinning this on Cory, but I think this is why they played that way.

Goal 3 is high short side. That's on the goalie. Goals that go in on the short side? Of course there are exceptions, but he left the whole short side open. I would argue that was worse than goal 1, because there was a screen on goal 1.

Let me ask you this and PLEASE REPLY BACK! Because you've ignored it EVERY time I've used these numbers. Schneider is a .905% goalie over his last 100 starts. That includes the playoffs too. It would be less if I took those out of the sample and THAT would be a bias. It's probably .902% or .903% regular season only, but I'm being fair here.

So, .905% over 100 games, isn't it a possibility that he just sucks now? And just isn't good anymore? Because if your favorite goalie across the river (who I KNOOOOW you LOVE!) had a .905% over his last two years, you'd be laughing at him, saying he was finished and that he needed more pads. But we live in a world where that's not happening. Where Cory Schneider might go extinct before not only Lundqvist, but before Roberto Luongo. Find me a list of ACTIVE goalies that are .905% over their last 100 games. I'll be waiting. I bet you can't find many active. I don't even know if Cam Ward has been that bad.

Agreed on all counts. You'd figure they would change it up because it's just not working at all. It looks like it works in very short bursts then they get burned as usual, I was surprised Cory saved their asses to only muck it up in the SO, but i remember Cory is by far one of the worst SO goalies (even when he was great for us years ago).

Stubbornness or idiocy. It's not like we have a winning OT formula and just whining about a lost game or so. Freaking 5 games ended the same way, with same feeling of helplessness, and this one somehow by miracle lasted beyond the 5 mins.

Also, defending Cory for this particular game is not the same as saying he isn't bad or is entirely blameless for his losing streak. I don't care what goalie is in net, having 3 own goals in one game is going to probably equal a loss. Cory battled back after the first period and helped us get to OT, and held the fort in OT while our half assed offense did whatever the hell it is they do in OT. He deserved a better fate tonight.

cory is just the umbilical cord from the marty era and we need to cut it loose at this point. i dont care if we are a slightly better team with or without him, its just painful at this point.

Any word from Captain Greene on his play???

Probably some hockey platitude in a lifeless voice with a smirk he is trying to suppress from coming out, one that you know just says, I can't believe I'm still in the league and getting paid to suck this badly.

A big reason we're in the gutter this year because he's (Greene) expected to play like a #2 guy and he's doing his best #7 impression.

I don't even rag on Lovejoy as much anymore because he usually keeps within his limits and he has been slightly better than his last years showing, and I frankly don't expect much from him so you can't rag on the #6/#7 guy all day long.

Greene has fallen off a cliff from where he was even 1 year ago, if he's not only supposed to be a top pairing guy or at least you can say he was pencil'ed in top 2nd pairing guy but he's playing like he's got now skills to keep up now, he's the freaking captain of this team and show some leadership. If you can't improve, take the sword and tell everyone you know you had a bad game and you need to work on it and take f***ing responsibility for a large portion of the shitshow we've been painfully watching the last month, forget the 5th owngoal idiocy...

They play OT like this for Keith as well though. They have never pressed the play in OT this year.

I don't get it either. We've got guys who should be good with more open ice, yet we just kind of circle around with the puck and pray somebody on the other team screws up. When we have the puck at all anyway.
