also can someone give me a rundown of why / how long Severson was benched for? i know he made a bad play that led to the second goal, was just wondering if that was why he was sat (didnt get to watch most of the game after that moment)

Faceoffs are pointless besides the first OZ powerplay draw and empty net situations, they mean nothing for the most part other than that.

Late second to the early third, if I remember right.

The context of TBFs post was saying fans are slow to catch up to reality, in response to someone saying "we'd be contenders IF" and someone else saying "If?"

As in, people are slow to catch on that we're contenders. And further evidence of the fan base being slow to catch on and raise Bratts value, because "we", as in the fans, were willing to trade him for anything this summer.

He even followed it up by saying - fine it was only really one guy thats well known (implying our number 1 Bratt hater)

f***ing embarrassing reading comprehension.

Last 3 years Jack and Jesper together without Haula have a 63.14% xGF which is 12.44% better relative to the team, their GF-GA is 27-21.

With Haula their xGF% is 63.67, rel xGF% is -0.71, and GF-GA is 3-3.

Yeah they REALLY need Haula's defense and faceoff help. It's not like those 2 are so f***ing good that you could throw literally anyone next to them and they'll succeed.

How are two goals not a fact? Wtf like your jibberish is beyond comprehension at this point.

If jack moves to lw permanently then he'll be a great player if he never takes a faceoff again.

If he's our #1c, and in a playoff game he isn't in the ice to start a PP, or he needs to get subbed for a big draw in our zone, or worse we have a big Dzone faceoff late in the game and he loses it, it'll be all the announcers and fans will talk about.

Who gives a flying f*** what they talk about?? Also the idea that he wouldn't be on the ice to start a PP is f***ing asinine. Just complete illogical nonsense that would never happen. Why would Jack be on the bench rather than just not being the one to take the draw (which is already what we do). If a big draw is necessary in our D zone then Jack very likely wouldn't be on the ice anyway so that's also irrelevant.

One thing I don't think we've talked about is Markstrom kicking the net off the pegs twice intentionally, and almost getting it a third time. Can we send a tape somewhere and get him suspended for next game? I was really pissed after the first one.
I really wish that deliberate kicking of the net off the pegs by the goaltender resulted in a Penalty.

Speak for yourself. I wanted no part of trading Bratt and I know I'm hardly alone in that.

I wanted no part of even moving him 1 for 1 for Tkachuk. I have been saying for a couple years that there really isn't a gap between them and now people can finally see it because the raw production is there. Anyone who wanted to move Bratt was clueless.

His underlying stats have been trending in the star territory for a couple of seasons now, trading him before the production exploded, as we're seeing last year and this year, would have been nuts. You don't sell low on developing players.

Since his rookie year he only has year where he wasn't in the 50s or higher in 5v5 P/60 and even that was like 90 something. He was always a highly highly efficient producer who didn't get the usage he deserved so his raw totals didn't match what he was actually doing.

The worst shit was how we needed to trade Bratt for Laine because he’s a big guy that scores. Bratt is so much better at almost every aspect of hockey.

It was Bratt+Severson for Laine. Bratt+ for Miller. Probably a Bratt+ for Boeser or Meier at some point that I'm forgetting. Funny that everyone people have tried to trade Bratt for he's surpassed (besides Tkachuk as both are basically the same level) and generally FAR surpassed them.

Thats not a fact lol its just a bunch of anecdotes.

and I said faceoffs are NEXT TO meaningless. There are always a couple important faceoffs in a game. But FOR THE MOST PART, 95% OF THE TIME, they are meaningless. I dont get why this is so hard to see.

if JAck never took another faceoff agian he would still be considered a "great player". Thats silliness.

Everything starts from a faceoff and will define where possession begins in a sequence of events.

Just look at the game winning goal bratt scored vs. Edmonton. Faceoff win defined our sequence to marino and to bratt who scored 7 seconds after winning said faceoff.

Same for the faceoff goal wood scored in same game just earlier that the camera didnt even pan fast enough. Wood got posession and goal was generated quickly. Thats 2 from one single game even

Same for any PK or PP momentum shift start. I didnt read all the way back to how this convo started but faceoffs definifely not meaningless.

You may say these are anecdotes but they are also facts of sequence start of the posession towards a goal generated.

I recall Hischier for Laine and even Hischier and Hughes for Dahlin and Eichel. I don’t recall any real narrative or support to move Bratt. Maybe one or two posters openly advocate to trade him but one poster openly posted that the team’s biggest problem in past seasons was Hischier and that Moving Hischier was addition by subtraction. You can’t take one or two extreme positions and blow them up too much because there will always be a few standing out on the ledge.

Exactly. We’re so lucky to have him now and for the future. With all the cap space coming off and all the ELC’s coming on, I’m not worried about Fitz not giving him his due, he’s never (him and Shero) not paid players who deserved it from what I can remember. The more I’m hearing about it the more I believe the “low cap space” theory could be true.

How many goals this year have come off a faceoff in our games? I don't know the number but let's be generous and say like 15. We've had 699 faceoffs. That'd be 2%. So yeah not meaningless but not all that important at all and people vastly over-exaggerate the importance. IIRC the research that was done showed that even guys who are on the extremes for FO% only see their possession numbers shift like +/- 2%

It’s a delay of game penalty if the referee deems it intentional, same as a skater.

Goalies get a lot of leeway though, since they need to push pretty aggressively against the post to seal it.
