(I hope I made this poll right. It's the first time I've done this so if I mess up, please forgive me)

For two whole periods(aside from when the flyers made it 1-1), it was one of the most enjoyable Devils games I've watched.

McLeod had a big opening goal (yes, that was 99% Ty Smith but Mike had to make sure he put the puck in the net so I'll give him 1% :sarcasm: ) which was great 'cause he does bust his ass every game to help the team.

Then after letting them tie it up, Kuokk did a fantastic job forechecking and digging for the puck which wound up on Bratt's stick, who then made a very good pass to Palms for the one-timer to make it 2-1.

And the Devils never looked back.

Zajac's line was amazing as it was causing havoc and all that.

That they got 2 goals today is a testament to their hustle AND to BAEJAC's (heh..) contribution on Defense and being at the right place at the right time...

...and Ty Smith....wow. What can I say about this kid that hasn't already been said? He's our new Rafalski (though I'm sure someone will come up with a better comparison).

Smith sets up Zajac's late tally

Guy is so smooth and just keeps on racking up the assists as a defenseman.

But of course, being that it's the Devils, things just can't be easy.

The 3rd period started out okay but the moment the Extra Attacker came on, it turned into hair-pulling and nail-biting time, with all of us wondering if we're witnessing an epic collapse which would've no doubt broken our spirit the same way Hynes presence broke that team's spirit from the get-go last season.

Fortunately, the Devils had that 3-goal cushion and needed it.

Big Mac made the saves he needed to make although he did seem to be fighting the puck just a bit tonight.

Regardless, it was a win and that's all that matters.

And it's good they won because we got the Caps next so things could get a bit hairy.

Enjoy the win for tonight, folks!

And F the flyers!

Loved everything about this game except for like the last 6 minutes or so... and the crappy ice. Can't remember seeing so many people blow tires... and when Hughes does it... twice, you know there is something up.

Zajac's line is rolling... and yes, I thought he was cooked a week ago, because he was skating like garbage. All three of the guys on that line have great energy SUCH good sticks... so many deflected passes.

Really nice game by MB29. Some high caliber saves he made look really easy - freezing the puck at the right time - very sticky; no rebounds.

Incredible game by Ty Smith.

Really good games by just about everyone. Second game in a row that I'm really not unhappy with any player on the ice.

Good stuff. I'm out.

Went with Zajac, Sharangovich and Blackwood but a bunch of others were deserving.

In fact, except for Severson and maybe Hughes and Bratt (not bad but had some rough spots) just about everyone played well.

Feel bad for those of you who had to endure Jim Jackson. Love the objective way in which he announces opposition goals.

Continuing the Johnsson discussion from the GDT...

He sure isn’t producing but he isn’t a liability out there, especially since Ruff had a talk with him. He is still near the tops on 5 v 5 goals against per 60. Looks like he has some chemistry with Wood and McLeod so that line will be interesting to watch.

Also, LOL at the Hughes hate by the same grumpy posters. He had a ‘bad’ game and yet the amount of shots generated when he was on the ice was insane. He is constantly number 1 in that department. We have a special player here, give it time folks.

It was very "interesting" to listen to how he called goals.

He was excited for both team's attempts from what I recall.

There was none of the usual subdued "and he scores....ZZZzzzzz" that makes it sound like somebody's dog got kicked.

I think saying he isn’t a liability sells it short too. If he was just treading water or slightly above that I think that’d be fair. He’s been better than that. The Devils consistently out shoot, out chance and out score their opponents when Johnsson is on the ice

Maybe he earned a spot on a line with Zacha and Maltsev. I do not like Merkely on that third line. Rather he and Wood cause chaos on the 4th line.

As much as I love the chart, I wish there was a way to distill it for HDCF. Having shot attempts and shot assists in shitty areas don't mean as much. Show me a graph of dangerous area attempts and assists

Yeah it does kind of suck for shot assists. Shot attempts though you can look at iSCF, ixG, and iHDCF.

Agreed. I’m sick of people citing these shot attempt numbers all the time as if all shot attempts are created equal. They’re not and there’s such a wide spectrum of the quality that an attempt can be so the statistic is extremely limited in what it can tell you.

I was watching the opening goal again and man did we look bad exiting the zone there. That play should have never made it past center ice. The flyers are just a total disaster.

The STK line is jiving though. Against a team playing as soft and uninspired as philly, they can just eat you up. And that's how it should be. We might never outtalent a team, but we sure as hell can out work them.

If it was just one game it wouldn't be a problem...but it was the entire last season and large swaths of this season...in fact he has been held pointless in 13 of his last 17 contests and only has 5 points in his last 17 games. It goes beyond though really...the trend line has been going down since his hot start at the beginning of the season. The last 25 or so games has been similar production to last season which was really bad to say the least. I mean if you're ok with this player showing up on the score sheet 4 times in 17 contests you either have a lot more patience than I do or maybe just a lower standard?

You can hang your hat on abstract stats if it makes feel better but Jack is simply not producing well enough...and even if you don't, I find that extremely troubling.
