some of these guys are going to be bottom six players in the NHL anyway and at this point it's hard to imagine that someone like Joey Anderson wouldn't offer more in a 4th line wing role than Simmonds.

That is poor asset management. You want to develop these guys to the best they can be. Not just assume they will only fit a limited 4th line role and stall their development.

it's not. playing on the 4th line isn't going to stall Boqvist's development. There's only 12 forward spots even if they develop next year in the AHL they could still possibly be playing in the bottom 6 the season after next if they make it to the NHL. Even then I feel like there's someone better you could acquire for another bottom 6 player than what Simmonds has brought. Like Erik Haula who can play wing/center and can play in the top 6 and bottom 6.

Simmonds is clearly not that good anymore. He has 5 goals in his last 72 games and is barely a 30 point player anymore, despite being a 30+ goal scorer a few years back. He's clearly in decline.

I'd take him over Rooney and Hayden and guys like that, but we all know if he's re-signed here, it won't be in that role.

he prolly knows that. just hope he remembers who overpaid for him, hes a character guy that you cant gauge on the scoresheet at this point. hope he decides to stay. with a paycut.
