The leafs have Nathan Horton in the last year of his contract. I wonder if we could take on that contract to pry someone away from them.
The problem with Horton is that his contract is uninsured, thus it would cost real money. I'm not sure we're so keen on paying that unless there's a very, very high return. It might make more sense for some team to take that on to reach the cap floor.

Bratt hopefully stays healthy and plays a full season. That would be huge for him and the club. He can do so many things. That and grows, puts on a few pounds, becomes stronger on the puck and along the boards.
Ya Bratt needs to put in a full season.

Rookie season he wore down became ineffective and was pulled from the lineup

2nd season injured missed 30 games.

3rd season, it's time.

i dont really see any shrewd moves for Ray to make at this point. Anyone willing to trade Bratt or even Zacha at arguably their lowest (recent) values is not maximizing their assets. Bratt after a relatively healthy season has much more value than he does now. I can get on board with trading him, lets just maximize his value first. Same with Zacha, another full season with some higher point totals is the best way to maximize his value. We are not competing for a cup this year, so why do we need to push for the playoffs? I'd rather be a lottery team again and gain some serious assets, another prime piece and really build something that will last.
Ray really shouldn't be making any more moves unless he feels his job is on the line. Which, by all indications, it is not riding on just this season. Vegas shouldnt be trading Gusev anyway, they should be shedding cap to make room for him. He should be on the Vegas roster, not being traded for middling pieces.
We won't get him without sending boqvist back. I'd rather keep him and ....again...try to maximize his value before selling him low. I'll take the risk he doesn't bust.

If Bratt has a great season, we are not trading him unless some team offers us something we'd be hard-pressed to refuse.

The goal of the season is NOT to "maximize Bratt's value so we can trade him just because".

Time to renew subscription to NHL broadcasts! Fokken psyched for this season! Finally a team that has adequate pieces on paper to actually compete. We can still be better, but the hard core rebuild is over. Thank god.

I think we just could make a deep run with a resigned and healthy Hall - plus we get top quality goalie play.

Goal is still a huge question mark in my eyes. At the risk of setting the cat among the pigeons and I don’t want to chase down that rabbit hole again - we have beaten those discussions to death.

We will be as good as the goalie play we get this year. No better no worse, that’s NHL reality. You are only as good as your goaltending. Blackwood and Corey may just carry us on a deep run season let’s see.

I'd agree with that. Schneider and Blackwood are both wildcards. If they play well and the team stays healthy and other things like Simmonds PK and Hughes work out, I don't think the Devils winning the cup next season would be any crazier than the Blues winning it this year.

With all these continued mentions that Ray is “big game hunting” and all that...anyone think he’s been sniffing around a trade for Marner?

Id take Kapanen for Hortons contract, that clears enough for Marners contract

Add in prospects or picks to make it work

If Shero is taking advantage of a cap situation, one would expect a move soon, no?

Teams cant keep these answers on hold forever - they need closure on their cap so they can make the next move

Its only the fourth day of FA but even then im surprised we havent seen more activity around the league. Maybe a deal or two is keeping everyone held up

I don't see any scenario where we could get Marner from them tbh. It would take Hughes or Nico, next year's first, Smith, and still probably a good amount more. Unless it's just a huge offer sheet.
