Are you kidding me? This has nothing to do with politics or political correctness. It's a problem that you even consider this issue "political."

The guy is a CONVICTED child molester/rapist. Convicted. Meaning it's not part of today's annoying cancel culture. He did it. I'm not going to lend any mental space or thought to what colleges do it. I don't care. I am a fan of the Devils and a paying customer to the Devils and like it or not, using that song is a sign of acceptance regarding what that man has been convicted of and I nor the owners of this team are going to be any part of it... and that's a good thing.

It is utterly unbelievable the amount of people that are so focused on and upset with that song not being played.

Truthfully, I only would care if the dude was seeing the money off the use of it, but he'll die in jail so I don't care tbh

I don't really care about the song, but I also don't think that enjoying it is an endorsement of molestation or rape any more than playing and enjoying John Lennon is an endorsement of domestic abuse.
Exactly. The "guilt by association" thing is running amok in this society and I refuse to take part in it.

I've always had the thought that a band could cover the song... and as long as Glitter doesn't financially benefit from it, use that song.

He would still get writing credits, as I understand it. As an example, I heard once that Sting gets writing credits (and royalties) from the Dire Straits song "Money for Nothing", because when he sang the "I want my MTV" part, he accidentally used the melody from his own song "Don't stand so Close to Me". Once it was released he was owed royalties.

I think the best way to understand it in this case is like a boycott. Glitter gets royalties when the song is played at a for-profit event. By not playing the song, they are refusing to give him any income from it.

For what it's worth I would also approve of using the song once he's gone to meet his maker.

seriously. take up a collection to match it and donate it to a worthy cause, pedophiles without borders or whatever, and use rock and roll pt2

Retributive justice is just wonky and all the rage these days.

I'm pretty sure at some point I'm going to have to give my house to a Native American , my kids will have serve as slaves, and I'll be extradited to Italy because Columbus was such a bad guy.

If the guy was making money because of his pedophilia, and the song was about pedophilia, and the video was made using child porn - then, duh, of course it should be banned everywhere.

If we start down this path, we could pretty much rub every person out of every sports Hall of Fame, burn all books, and eliminate 95% of the songs on iTunes for some infraction or another.

Here's a question: Are we also eliminating all Woody Allen movies and all Michael Jackson from radio and streaming services, or is it just easier to eliminate the clown with one song?

Maaaannnnnn, do NOT complain about generic crowd rock music then bemoan the lack of RR Pt.2; I know it has a special place in Devils lore (For whatever reason) but that song is the literal definition of generic crowd rock. Every stadium in North America has that song on standby if they need it.

It is a thoroughly replacement-level song, pedophilia aside. It is the bagged store-brand cereal of stadium music. Get the f*** over it.

Would love to acquire Kyle Connor or Patrik Laine without giving up somebody from the roster.

If Ray Shero can acquire Taylor Hall, PK Subban, Kyle Palmieri, Marcus Johansson, Nikita Gusev, and Sami Vatanen with Larsson and Henrique as the only true roster players included in any of those trades, then I have faith he would be able to pry one of these guys away from Winnipeg using our 2020 1st rounder + other pieces.

Get it done Ray. We have about 6.5 million in cap space, though it would be wise to save some of that for Hughes and Hischier potential performance bonuses. Find a way to make it work.

we absolutely cannot afford Connor without pretty substantial salary going back to Winnipeg

which defeats the purpose for Winnipeg, so.

Good lord. No, we’re not going to have to eliminate 95% of songs for “some infraction or another”. If you can’t see the difference between Lennon being an abusive husband at one point in his life and a convicted pedo, come the hell on.

And yes, I don’t watch any Woody Allen or Roman Polanski movies anymore and it is awkward listening to Michael after watching that latest documentary. You’re making a mockery of the anti- “cancel culture” people by using the ridiculous slippery slope argument in defense of actual rapists and pedos lol.

Great! Let's replace it with something good instead of a pile of crap!

If he wants to abandon what seems to be the foundation of a very good competitive team, then he can walk. Drafting Jack has changed my attitude on him leaving: before we won the lottery I would have been really upset if he left, now he can rot elsewhere if he cant see whats going on here.

I'm ready to put the Parise nameplate and "C" back on the #9 I've got. Every f***ing time the team struggles, the players are going to be asked if the Hall situation is a distraction. Well, yeah. How can it not be? Dump his sorry ass and move on.

It shouldn't be a distraction at all. Teammates come and go all the time. That's the business. That's the boilerplate answer anyone will give who isn't Hall himself and it's true. It's a decision between him and Shero and it has nothing to do with them.

Yes because it would be so smart to dump one of the most valuable players in the league because you're annoyed he hasn't signed before seeing the team perform

I could care less about the song but I do find it funny that the devil's won't do rock and roll part 2 for obvious reasons but they are ok with possibly having a song where one of the band members evaded police on a 10 block joy ride and had to draw their weapons on him. I guess since they are from new jersey it's ok.

Hardly, chief. Your position is an overly simplistic infantile approach to the world at large. The inability to accept grey areas in our shared world experience and this overwhelming belief that your subjective 'right' matches everyone else's despite completely neglecting situational context and societal norms at the time makes it so atheists can handwave away centuries of western philosophical thought and texts because of the actions of individuals and the accomplishments of some guy who took three boats across an ocean because of expedient measures he later took as governor that anyone in his place would have done given the situation.

The guy is a pedo and sexual predator - and yeah, I'm probably going to be accused of victim blaming when the root of this is that a 12 and 13 year old are somehow mindblowingly backstage in his dressing room at a concert in 1977. But wtf? There is somehow a connection between a hockey team using this song 42 years later? As a father of a 13-year-old girl... My first inclination is to get on the interwebs, find out who her mum and pops were in 1977, and if they are still alive head over to their house and slap them in the face.

It's all important that we don't use RRp2 as a goal song because... well, it sends a message. uh. I guess.

Perhaps we should be bombing the f*ck out of sub-saharan Africa and Saudi Arabia, and well, I don't know Arkansas(?) right now, because.. you know, they marry off girls at 13.

Repeated acts of pedophilia, including sex vacations that resulted in imprisonment, and a '10 block joy ride' are the same now.

We would still have to pay Glitter's estate royalities if another band did a cover of the song?

Get a NJ based band that has no convictions and clean record to cover RRP2 if it won't benefit the estate of Glitter.

Seriously, imagine in 2019 getting offended by "hey you suck" like a bunch of purtians. From a sports team that plays in NEWARK of all places, hardly Elmore City.

Jesus christ, man. Gary Glitter went to Cambodia and Vietnam and was accused of sex crimes there. This is a person who has preyed on children for what appears to be his entire life. And you're going to blame someone's parents for this guy's actions?
