That was 5 years ago at this point. I don't care what we gave up for him anymore.

i’m not sure what ‘5 years ago’ has to do with it? we’re not talking about a car that would depreciate, we’re talking about a top 10 pick who would have 5 years of development under his belt. don’t get me wrong, i’m glad we made the trade and signed him long term...but it’s time to see results, and those results should definitely be above average.

regardless of the trade, he’s paid more than the average goalie, so he damn sure better play above average. or, i’ll settle for him just outplaying kinkaid this year. i still have faith that he can do it.

Implying Schneider hasn't delivered above-average results since the trade is just flat out incorrect.

What we gave up 5 years ago has nothing to do with the player he is now. That's all I'm saying.

Implying Schneider hasn't delivered above-average results since the trade is just flat out incorrect.

He's referring to what I said about him needing to average this year.

Bo Horvat or Cory right now?

This is an impossible game to play because the trade changed so much about the team's future. We could be event better off, we may not. There's no way to possibly know.

We're finally on the right track here, just had a great season and are a young improving team. Can't we just be happy with that? I know we can't for some reason... Just saying though lol

Zajac is not going to be the top line (and mostly probably not even second line) center anymore, so his production will likely be down anyway.

His uptick in production seemed to almost coincide with him being pushed down to 3C last year anyway.

In other words, he was finally put in the spot where he can succeed.

As I've been saying since the season ended, my two biggest worries are goaltending.

I with you on most of this, Bleed. I *do* think you and others here lose sight of the momentum/confidence aspect of the position -

All of our goaltending woes began with our defense going into the toilet towards the end of December as we got a little full of ourselves. The team defense was terrible, the decision-making was terrible, and for a week or two our goaltending kept us floating like a corpse until the wheels started really falling off.

Cory re-aggravated his hip having to turn himself inside out for a few weeks, and then Kincaid took the brunt of the awfulness, until he benefited when the team started turning itself around. Once he started getting some predictable D in front of him and stopped having to guess at everything, he settled down and became a very good goalie.

Long story short - it is going to be how good our team defense is + allowing the goaltenders to settle in and play their game.

To be honest, if it is a complete horror show early, I'd rather not see Blackwood get destroyed - but if he gets to come in when everyone else is struggling and has nothing to lose...

making the playoffs last year was overachieving to a ridiculous degree. to expect them to make the playoffs again this year is a bit nutty, but to each their own. personally, i see us finishing anywhere between 24th-27th overall. nothing wrong with that, especially when we have a lot of selections in the ‘19 draft

"nothing wrong with that", he says.

It's almost like you WANT the Devils to miss.

Good grief. The 2018-19 season hasn't even started and you're already focusing on the 2019 Draft?

Why not just say "I want the Devils to tank" and be done with it? geez.....

It's a miserable, loser mindset that I'll never understand.

Go cheer for the Sabres or some dumb **** like that.

The Devils probably need another star-level player to be a consistent playoff team. I don't want the Devils to finish that low this season, but if they do it's not the worst thing to happen to them (assuming there are no long-term injury ramifications)

yeah as if Schneider wasnt dragging this team around by himself for a few years there

some weird birds on here man. What we traded for Cory Schneider five years ago has no bearing on anything

there’s nothing wrong with missing the playoffs, given how we added nobody, and even lost some mediocre players we had last year. our goaltending and defense are HUGE question marks. who knows? shero could, and probably will, make some trades over the course of the season that make us better on paper.

i don’t want the devils to tank, but what i want is irrelevant. i’m looking at the reality of the situation and lowering my expectations accordingly. if you think the devils will easily waltz into a playoff spot, you know less about hockey than i ever imagined. if you think it will be very, very difficult to make the playoffs, then we basically agree.

I've seen literally zero people claiming this.
