It's ok it's just not as good as what hronek is at this moment. And it really shouldn't be. Hronek has a year on him. Rasmus should have beaten svechnikov if he beats hronek here. #2 or 3 ceiling for a d > #2 center

Hronek has 2 years on him actually. He is a late '97.

I do like Hronek, but I still went with Rasmusen on upside.
yes the franchise desperately needs defenseman and Hronek may be the more 'important' prospect, but orgazizational wants... doesn't change what the prospects actually are.

It's not about wants. A #2 d is more valuable then a #2 center. So is a number 3

Yeah, a little bit. Check out this game. This made me kind of depressed. The guy looks like a grinder. He never holds onto the puck, never makes a play or takes a risk, nothing. He scores a goal on a deflection and that's all you see from him, offensively-speaking. He leaves the o-zone early and is always the first forward back. He reminds me of Sheahan. But Sheahan was a more promising offensive guy when he was a prospect.

Sheehan never got more than 25 points in a full season at Notre Dame. Generally ppg production or 30 points in your freshman year equates to having offensive upside in the NCAA. Riley never had the passing vision I've seen (admittedly from limited footage) from Ras either. I always pull for the NCAA players, but I think Ras shows a bit more to be excited about at their respective prospect levels.

That's the role he is forced to play on that team.

Don't expect him to be a puck-carrier/playmaker, when that's not his role.

This poll makes me realize how weak our prospect pool is outside of Svechnikov and maybe Bertuzzi too.

And neither of those are AAA prospects.

But agreed, the cupboard is very bare compared to 5 years ago when we had a dozen guys with NHL potential (even if the Sprouls and Jurco's didn't ultimately pan out)

Are you saying this video is not representative of his overall game?

In some ways yes and in some ways no. I have seen him do a hell of a lot more with the puck than that. If you are looking for someone who plays like Dats, however, you will be disappointed.

I am not concerned about a "lack of skill" (which is the narrative extrapolated by the analytics fans), I am more concerned about him learning to get off of the perimeter with the puck. If he finds a way to consistently take the puck to the net he should be a good effective NHLer. This should not be an insurmountable task given his size, mobility and reach. Unlike the smaller guys he won't need to make people miss with his hands.

We've just graduated a lot of guys recently. XO, Sproul, Jensen, Mrazek, AA, Mantha, Larkin... that's a lot of graduated prospects in a short time. Give this pool 1-2 years and it'll look much, much better unless we've completely dropped the ball in the last few drafts.

The franchise desperately needs everything except wingers.

Interesting. I was just thinking how solid our top 5 is right now. Admittedly only Svechnikov/Bertuzzi have established themselves at a pro level but to me Svech, Bert, Ras, Hronek and Cholo is a good group with exciting upside.

You know, I did speak a little hasty. I think Hronek is an extremely exciting prospect, who could be a legit top pairing defenseman one day, possibly. As for Cholo and Ras, they're both fairly underwhelming prospects to me. I know Malik has been really pumping Cholo's tires this week, but he hasn't really enthused me terribly much. Maybe Cholo turns out, but he's a total project. And Ras, I really don't see anything beyond a 3rd line guy in him.

I've got vili ahead of Bert. I still don't think Bert has top 6 potential. He will be an NHLer sure but his ceiling doesn't seem high. He did take a step forward this season so that's promising

Yeah I don't see him as more than a bottom 6 winger that's great come playoff time. If I had to rank our prospects it's probably:
1.Svech 2.Hronek 3.Cholo 4.Vili 5. Ras 6. Bert and I could probably be convinced to choose Lindstrom over Bert.

It's pretty bad that the #9 pick, the highest the Wings have had in a generation, has people putting Bert, Hronek and Cholo above him.

I like that our fan base isn't putting him high just because of his draft position

He has enough offensive talent that he could be a top 6 player. 40-50 points isn't outrageous expectations for his potential and that pretty much makes you a top 6 player. His most recent season is very comparable to what Tatar did in his last AHL year.

Honestly I'm somewhat tempted to just because I want to give our scouts the benefit of the doubt that he at least somewhat deserved to go at 9...but I'll be pretty surprised if he's better than a 3C+PP guy and all of Hronek, Cholo and Vili have more potential than that. I'll take a #3/4D every day of the week over a 3C...no matter how big or how much character he has.

That's a pretty reasonable list. I love lil Bert and everything he brings but he tops out as a 2nd line winger and is likely a 3rd line guy that brings it come playoff time. While that's valuable I think in a vacuum I'd rather have a top 4 defenceman than that so I can see the reasoning behind putting him at 7 or even 8.

It's pretty bad that the #9 pick, the highest the Wings have had in a generation, has people putting Bert, Hronek and Cholo above him.

I've got him at #3 based on the fact that I believe his even strength scoring will correct itself and he'll show off a little more playmaking ability next year. If you have doubts about his ability to do that I could see the logic in ranking him 4th or even 5th, especially if you do think he'll be a #3C/PP specialist.

40-50 points seems like a major stretch.
