a few highly skilled wings available in trade led by Forsberg and Taylor Hall. not sure Canes pursue anyone but how about trading for older Svech? he has skill but has been injured a lot.

Easy no to big Svech for the same kind of reasons I wasn’t interested in Poolparty.

Also, JR is no longer our GM so gone are the days of collecting family sets.

Older Svech has looked really good to start his NHL career, though. The thing is, however, Detroit is the perfect situation for him. They're not contending for anything right now, so there's lots of minutes available to play in the top-6 whereas he would be tied to the taxi squad over here.

Yeah, I think Big Svech would be a good player/fit for us, but I really don't want the headache that will come when one or the other has to leave the team due to money or performance. That didn't work well even for the Staals who handled it as professionals.

But I wonder if Detroit might listen on moving Mantha. He'd be a great fit on the first line with Turbo and Aho instead of the McGinn/Marty/Fast party we've been trying to run to keep the other lines moving. He also has quite a bit of term and we know the front office likes to pick up non-rentals. I wonder if they'd take our 1st, Rees, and McLovin (who still has some team control) as a trade for him. Of course, this would probably mean the end of signing Dougie after the season, but that is starting to look like the way it's going anyway.

As mentioned, he's probably in a good spot for himself. And the Canes are in a spot where if they make a deal, it should be for a big time, established top six forward like the first couple of guys you mentioned.

Man, you're going to be upset when we acquire Marc and Eric at the deadline.

Not a bad idea, especially if Detroit thinks it's still a few years away. Mantha is 26, probably in his prime, with 4 years left. Unless they think they want him around as a "veteran" presence by the time they get good, he may not fit with their timeline.

No idea if Detroit fans would like that return. Rees to me is still in that territory where we like him but maybe others don't get excited for him.

Personally, I think Dougie is going to be re-signed. There's some unusual value in UFA right at this moment because of the effects from COVID that normally is not there. Sure, the stars aren't as affected as the middle group, but the AAV effect is still there.

Even so, however, I think Mantha or Bertuzzi would be a really nice pickup, but I don't see Stevie dealing the select few long-term pieces that he already has. A much better bet, IMO, is either Forsberg or Arvidsson in Nashville.

Mantha is a big forward that on paper would add playoff grit. However, he has been somewhat out of favor with Wings staff due to poor play: https://detroitsportsnation.com/jef...ker/detroit-red-wings-news/02/07/2021/244554/

I haven’t watched enough of their games to understand why.

If he’s out of favor then the cost of picking him up would not be as expensive as you have listed. I’d favor Forsberg if I had a choice.

Also adding any quality center to play above him would’ve led to improvement as he’s now getting easier matchups and he looks like it’s a load off his shoulders and he can just play. The fact that it’s Trocheck and that Vinny is finally picking up back where he left off pre injury makes us a deep playoff threat. Trocheck is making us almost a 1a/1b center team. He’s pushing Aho.

We’re pretty damn good right now.

Presuming he survives the expansion draft we should be thinking Trocheck stays a little longer than his contract. Necas is highly unlikely to be a stronger center, even if his scoring hits its ceiling.

Not that it’s really appropriate to pick just one guy out of 22, but if I had to pick one player who has profoundly influenced our results this year I’m thinking it’s Trocheck. His presence in the lineup pushes several other guys into their Right Place, gives us options on the PP and PK, and then you add in the performances he’s delivering night after night.

It’s really goddamn nice to have 3 good centers after such a long time of only having one decent center.

Exactly this....except when Martinook is on the 1st line. For the life of me I don't understand why you don't run McGinn up there again. Significantly more skilled, just as gritty, and seemingly makes fewer mental errors. I'd even be alright with Foegele getting a turn with Aho and Turbo.

I do love Svech with Jordo though....Rod is right, that size is tough to defend.

McGinn isn’t back up there probably because he f***ed in his arm/wrist/shoulder again. Because of the way he plays and then just keeps playing despite broken bones in his upper body a lot of his offensive effectiveness is taken away.

I mean they did, and it worked for a bit, but then as expected his hot streak ended and that line became 100% ineffective. Unfortunately until Aho-TT get going again, it doesn't seem like anybody on that line (including Svech) can really help a ton

if I had to pick one player who has profoundly influenced our results this year I’m thinking it’s Trocheck.

I would argue Necas just slightly more. He creates defensive breakdowns with his ability to attack with speed, is perhaps the main reason the 2nd PP has been more effective, and has even done some PK work using his speed.

Not diminishing Trocheck's role, but I am not sure the Canes have a second scoring line if Necas doesn't take the next step. I think the 2nd PP is much less effective as well without his increased contributions.

This is all a good thing as Necas will likely be around for quite a while.

The core has really solidified into Aho/TT/Svech/Pesce/Slavin/Necas. If the organization can find a way to make the cap work, Carolina could be contenders for the entirety of the 2020s.

YES, I WOULD VERY MUCH APPRECIATE IF OUR BEST YOUNG DEFENSEMAN WAS IN A FRANCHISE OF JERKS, NOT FRANCHISE OF SUCK.

I like playing against him because depending on how the announcer pronounces his name (lots of different ways I've heard it), I do a double take because I hear "Roenick".

Actual pronunciation.

H as in “Hate”
RO as in “Rod”
NEK as “Neck”

EMPHASIS ON FIRST SYLLABLE - HRO. “O” IS SHORT.
