Nice payday for Mr.Mantha. kids got a lot of talent, if he can stay healthy we may look back at this deal as an absolute steal

Really good deal for Wings, he's gonna be one of the better power F's in the league over that term

He will end up with a lot less than that with short schedule, escrow........
That why his contract is set up to make 4.5 million next year and 6.5 million the final 2 years. That's why a lot of contracts this offseason are set up that way.

Not bad Mantha 4 years and comes slightly under $6 mil per. Nice job by Stevie Y and nice deal for Mantha takes him up to age 30 and he can still cash in later.
This was a key move for Detroit. They likely will be bad for another 2 years so if they didn’t ink at least one of Mantha or Bertuzzi into their ufa years then you are left with just a bunch of kids trying to lead the way back to the playoffs without any guys in their late 20’s to lead them.
This sends a signal to Larkin who is their best player that they are keeping their guys so that when he is eligible for an extension in 2022 that he knows that he’s not the only one left from when he entered the nhl.

When you realize he's only being paid $200K more than Josh Anderson... LOLBERGY.

Is this a DET vs MTL thread, did I miss something? Why bring up Anderson at all?

Anderson on a 4 year contract gets between 3.5 and 5M. Mantha on a 7 year contract gets 7+M. They're roughly the same age. Are Habs fans supposed to mock Mantha's big raise in 3 to 4 years only because Anderson will make considerably less for the following 3 years after that raise?

Enjoy Mantha. Again you guys didn't lose once to the Habs last year, I don't get the salt / attack on Bergevin and Anderson..... in a Mantha thread to boot.

When I see this, i have no idea what any of it means. I have never tried to get into some of the advanced statistics and other ways of tracking players... Still go with the old eye ball test. Mantha is good, really talented, big and fast. Injury history or not, great deal Steve.
Nothing wrong with the eye test. Advanced stats help to get a read on players you’re unfamiliar with.

Nothing really new to add...steal for Detroit if Mantha remains healthy. I'd be comfortable paying a guaranteed healthy Mantha in the range of 8m AAV.

When you realize he's only being paid $200K more than Josh Anderson... LOLBERGY.

It's actually not skewed at all when you look at the difference in term (7 years vs 4). Not sure what your problem is against the Habs?

- Both are 26.
- Both have played about 260 games
- Both are wingers with size
- Both have dealt with injuries recently
- Mantha has 84 goals and Anderson has 65.
- Mantha has 0.67 pts/game and Anderson has 0.43

If Mantha was signed for 7 years and paid $200k more, you might have a point but it's 4 years so you don't got a good point. Nice try. You better hope he is trade bait in the last year of that deal cause in 4 years, the cap is going to be much much higher and if Mantha is as good as you think he is, he's going to cash in and your $7.5M AAV will be laughed at in 4 years! Right around the time the genius Yzerman expects to compete or rise up right? :sarcasm:. Is Mantha with the Wings after the age of 29?
