And Clayton Stoner is making nearly as much. This isn't a bad deal at all. DW can't do anything right in the eyes of many.
It's actually a really good deal for what Demers brings on the ice and the 2 year term makes a lot of sense for both sides, at least it does to me.
A contract that is perfectly in line with his production. If he remains here, he's starting the season as the PPQB which he should and if so, he will more than justify this contract and probably hit the 40+ point mark.
Is there any chance they make burns the ppqb on the first unit?
There is certainly a decent chance that they'll try, however, it probably won't work out all that well.

He's better off being the trigger. I expect the power play units to be different than last year.
This reeks of a i have to sign contract, and i am walking at the end of it.
Smells more like a i will never be worth 5 mil and will most likely become trade bait before i can walk.
Bergman putting on the squeeze.
Irwin/Hannan in the Top 4Considering what young offensive d-men have been getting lately, this is a fair contract. I was expecting around $3.5 mil for 2-3 years.
Here is the roster now as I see it:
Tomas Hertl ($0.925m) / Joe Thornton ($6.750m) / Joe Pavelski ($6.000m)
Patrick Marleau ($6.667m) / Logan Couture ($6.000m) / Matt Nieto ($0.759m)
Raffi Torres ($2.000m) / James Sheppard ($1.300m) / Tommy Wingels ($2.467m)
Adam Burish ($1.850m) / Andrew Desjardins ($0.750m) / Tyler Kennedy ($2.350m)
Mike Brown ($1.200m) / John Scott ($0.700m)
Marc-Edouard Vlasic ($4.250m) / Brent Burns ($5.760m)
Matt Irwin / Scott Hannan ($1.000m) / Jason Demers ($3.400m)
Mirco Mueller ($0.894m) / Justin Braun ($1.250m)
Scott Hannan / Matt Irwin ($1.000m)
Antti Niemi ($3.800m)
Alex Stalock ($1.600m)
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $6,145,000
lol Bergman is not even close to putting on the squeeze on Demers.

Irwin/Hannan in the Top 4
In two years.
Bergman in pipeline on 3 year ELC - Demers 2 year contract leading to UFA - Burns + Braun(impending raise) - Squeeze. . .
sorry but that is ridiculous to put Braun on the 3rd pairing.
D should be:
Vlasic - Burns
Irwin/Abeltshauser/Mueller - Braun
Abeltshauser/Mueller/Irwin - Demers
Hannan
God, it's so frustrating how badly we need to shore up our left side.
A 3 year ELC that will slide depending on how long he stays in juniors plus a rising cap and the fact that Demers does what none of Bergman, Braun, or Burns do in terms of puck-moving capability and vision.
What does it matter if it slides? It only gives the Sharks a cap advantage when they bring him up.
Braun and Burns can't move the puck as well as Demers? No one can replace Demers vision? You are obviously a lot higher on Demers than i am.
He's easily #3 on the right side for me.
No, Braun and Burns aren't able to move the puck as well as Demers...especially in the offensive zone. Neither have his vision. He probably is the #3 but it's because his defensive play isn't as good as Braun and Burns. Offensively, he is the best puck-handler and passer of the three.
