-"Celly":

When a player does a "celly", the term is derived from "celery", which was once hurled down from the rafters.

In the early days of the NHL, spectacular play, such as scoring three goals in a single game, was celebrated by enthusiastic fans casting bundles of celery on to the ice. Players were not paid the way they are today, and it was a welcome and nutritious reward for fine play. The subsequent dance of the player as they picked up the bushels of the vegetable has evolved into the celebrations players regularly engage in today.
