I feel that he is getting a little too fancy at times. I forget what game it was, but it was early in the game, first few minutes, and he got the puck right in front of the net, and was all alone. He put the puck behind him, by going threw his legs and put a weak shot on net. Yes, it was a cool move, would have been high light material, but the game was 0 - 0 and that was not the time or place. Then against, I think the Isle, he had a one on one and tried another
fancy move. Not so upset with that one, since he had to beat a guy to get to the tender.
He is an amazing talent, and fun to watch. Seems to have a great and infectious attitude. Glad he is signed long term.
I don't mind the creativity. I agree he can sometimes be too fancy, especially when we have possession, but if he has a chance and wants to be creative, it's better for him to show confidence even if he only finishes 50% of the time. I remember that break against Nashville he was in a bit of an odd position, and it was a pretty nice move. Just had to elevate it a bit. He's on the longest consecutive point streak in the league right now, and he just passively creates points because of the line he's on.
It's important for them to have fun, too. I think a big reason why they did so poorly for those two years (in addition to having an aging, slow team of vets past their shelf life) is because there were so many expectations on them that were impossible to achieve, and their old style of playing wasn't working anymore. They were losing, and when they won, it was boring. They're now a young, fast, and skilled team and I think it shows on the ice. The 2011 group was a very tight-knit group and I think these guys are meshing together very well. I think it's great for them to be creative and push each other to score a "cooler" goal than the other. I see that a lot with Pasta and Marchand... It seems like if one has a big game, the other does too. Might be because it's on the same line, but I think it's because they get pissed off that they're not the star of the game.
