Friedman:
This doesn't contradict what Pagnotta said should ideally quash the the baseless assumption that the Flames are looking to give Weegar away or that he'd be cheap to acquire.
Like I said earlier, the Flames are having a disappointing season. They're looking at anything and everything to correct course. The Sens who've apparently had an interest in Weegar for while, checked in to see if there was anything there. Now Friedman doesn't say it outright but does seem to imply that DeBrincat was the ask, which the Sens don't want to do. So this is dead, at least for now.
19. The Senators have told teams they won’t trade Alex DeBrincat at the deadline. New ownership will get a run at this, but if there isn’t some degree of certainty at the draft, then we’ll see. I don’t think MacKenzie Weegar is an option now, but we will see how everyone (including the Flames) feel later. Lots of time between then and now, lots of things for both franchises to sort out.
