Good review on Farrance. Basically they're saying he has the tools to become a top-four NHL defenseman but his defensive game needs to improve for him to do so. I still view him as a 3rd pairing PP specialist at NHL-level.

We could use one of those....

Brent Burns shifted from forward to D wonder how hard the transition would be the other way?

Scott Walker started out on D. Kevin Klein tried to switch when we had a logjam at D but went back when it suddenly cleared up again. Brian Boyle has gone back and forth (mostly C, but D when needed). I think Wade Belak moved up at some point in his career after being drafted as a D.

I'm sure there are others that just aren't on the top of my head right now.

I mean, let's not put any carts before horses here. Get him signed. Promise him basically whatever it takes to get him signed. You tell him he's getting the rookie max contract with some ok rookie bonuses sprinkled in, and that he's going to burn an ELC year right now in 2021, and get to play games down the stretch for us. On Defense.

You can't make any promises beyond that. No team could. No team he would sign with in September would. How many games he plays and whether he is ultimately able to play NHL-calibre D, that's up to him and is something that will become evident over the next several years. There's really no point in going off down that road right now. Who knows what the future holds on that front, it's not something to even bring up with him right now. Sign him, pay him, play him. The rest will take care of itself in due time.

Looks like the Frozen Four will be April 8-10 so I think that would be the latest. If he refuses to sign with us at least we will know prior to the trade deadline so we could move him to a team he would sign for to finish out the season.

March 6th BU season ends
March 14th hockey east quarters
BU is ranked T-9th, 16 teams in tourney. If BU is upset in the hockey east, they COULD not make the tourney.

EDIT: Then I check the RPI.....29th oy

I don’t think they make the NCAA Tournament unless they win Hockey East. I still think the NCAA needs to look at a 24 team Tournament now.

How fast are guys signing in a normal year?
In a normal year, as soon as their season is done. It's in the players' advantage to sign a contract, and if possible come and burn an ELC year in the NHL. They will get their signing bonus right away, and get that extra year under the wheels towards their UFA status. There is no reason whatsoever for a player to delay. Even school issues... all the schools have accommodations in place for student-athletes, so if that comes up it is basically blowing smoke.

I haven't been the least bit panicky about Farrance to date. It just makes too much sense for him to sign with us as soon as he's able. But if we start to slip past the date when he could, and he doesn't... red flags go up for sure.

Lol, hope they don’t leave it up to Poile’s son to beat the deadline.

I've seen a lot of twitter thinking Boston will be on the bubble. It's possible they squeak in and their season is extended.
They definitely have a lot of name prospects. No idea if the committee does any shenanigans, but getting all those NHL-drafted guys a little more time is probably something I'd try to do if I was a shenanigan-friendly committee member. :sarcasm:
