Tell me, which better player MT had at his disposal when he gave 14 minutes a night to Michel Ouellet in 05-06 and 13:20 in 06-07...

You mean that same Ouellet who had 26 of his 48 points in his career year involving a Crosby or Malkin somewhere on his statsheet only to totally bomb out of the NHL 2 years later. That is similar to DSP with Getzlaf-Perry being involved in half of his points. A mask for offensive ineptitude.

They didnt have any guys who were clearly better options. Christensen, Malone, Armstrong, Talbot, Jarko Ruutu were among their best wingers...

Ouellet was lighting up the AHL at 22 years old, was considered a decent prospect for the Pens.

Why? The more DD plays the worst the team does, it's an observation. (I didn't check this but I'd bet DD actually scores more in the games where he plays less.)

Maybe Therrien is trying to find the sweet spot: maximize DD's TOI and points while we still managing a winning record. That's what coaches do when their son is on the team hehehe.

Seriously we all suspected David Desharnais would be reunited with Pacioretty this season, so you win you should be delighted!

You can't reach that conclusion from the stats posted earlier. In my opinion, it's more likely to be the other way around, i.e. the worst the team does, the more DD plays. However I can't prove my conclusion any more than you can prove yours.

2006: Recchi, LeClair, Malone, Palffy, hell even Armstrong produced better than Ouellet.

2007 you do have an argument. However...Malkin played one year on wing, then got moved to C the year after. None of this 4 years to develop a center ********.

If Galchenyuk was a Crosby or a Malkin you could be pretty sure he would have been put at center just as fast. Not even a remotely reasonable comparison to make.

Actually you can, considering the dataset includes the previous two years as well.

Davey is most effective when he plays 13-14 min.

Of course, Ouellet wasn't a great player and got icetime because the Pens were a bad team... And was dispatched when they became good.

This was exactly what I meant. Not only that, but Christensen and Talbot were used at Center (at times at least), Armstrong played 17 minutes a night and Recchi got around 20. Malone played more than Ouellet too.

Different time, different year and wasn't watching hockey as closely as today.... having said that:

I talked a lot to Pens fans about this.... and the favoritism towards Ouellet was that he could blow defensive coverage, don't backcheck and still wasn't accountable for his mistakes or slumps. When he slumped, Therrien used him even more. He was heavily shletered and went 20 games without scoring and still kept his top 6 role while others were in the press box at first sign of problems.

Then you spoke with people with selective memory, because Ouellet's average ATOI puts him squarely in the Penguins bottom-6 for his two seasons with the Pens. He played regular shifts on the PP though and was something of a power play specialist.
