Eller.

oh wait

...exactly...BargainBin traded away our best 3rd line centre, mostly cuz Meathead Michel didn't like him and refused to use him properly...the Habs need their 3rd line for the heavy defensive minutes if they are going with Chucky & Pleks as the Top 2 centres...

...that's the thing; we don't want a 3rd line centre for Offensive Production, we need one that can take the heavy lifting defensive duties so our top 2 lines can focus on offence...Desharnais is terrible defensively and as our #3C would only take offensive opportunities/starts away from Galchenyuk & Plekanec, which we don't want...

You are living in the past. The old time of a 3rd checking line is over. It's now more about a top 9 that can produce offensively. Even the fourth line has to score goals and every line has to play responsible hockey.

Andrew Shaw duh.

...so we use Shaw as our 4th line centre and play him 15+ minutes a game??... :dunno:

...OK, let's try this again; if Galchenyuk is our #1C and Pleks is our #2C, how can we possibly play Li'l Michel as our #3C and give him offensively sheltered minutes without dumping them on Chucky or Pleks, basically turning their line into our 3rd line and giving Davey Top 6 centre icetime again, which has shown to be a terrible mistake for the last 3 years??...:dunno:

You are living in the EA NHL era where you believe that...:handclap:

Don't kid yourself.
Galchenyuk will be the Habs 1C for a couple of months, only for everything to be reverted.
Watch and see.

...no, it isn't...check the lineup of every team in the NHL...their Bottom 6 consists of less-gifted offensive players that play a more defensive game...hence why it is referred to as the Bottom 6...I've been watching hockey for 40+ years and it's always been that way and most likely always will be...

Defensive duty will be dropped on Plekanec and Mitchell's lines. Danault will probably pick up Desharnais' slack well enough I assume.

...so, in reality, Pleks is really our 3rd line centre and Davey our 2nd line centre...that would not surprise me at all, unfortunately...it would, however, become a huge detriment to our team very quickly...

Well, Plekanec is already dumped a lot of defensive assignments. Desharnais gets a lot of favoured ones, which is fine so long as he doesn't play 18 minutes a game (that's the important part).

I think that Desharnais will be third line centre, and that Therrien will roll three lines on the power play.

Which is why we should have kept Eller. Who is able to score 15 goals on the third with virtually no PP and mediocre wingers (Bourque, Prust, DLR, Sekac, Thomas, DSP etc..). Who is able to put a point per game rate of ~ 0.5 PPG while playing on the third line and no PP. Which is better a lot better than DD as a top 6 center with a lot of PP.

Obviously you can't have 12 players of the same caliber. It's pretty normal that your 3rd line produces less than the first.

But about main offensive production, more and more you'll heard about top 9 instead of only top 6.

I'll repeat again about Desharnais, 22 of his 29 points (65 games season) came when he played with Fleish-Weise and Carr-Ghetto. He didn't get his production from the PP, neither playing with Pacioretty.

Desharnais had .45 PPG rate last season. (.59 in his career)
Eller had a .33 PPG rate last season (.35 in his career)
